a bidet in a bathroom in the UK?
Do you think it elevates a normal bathroom to a luxury one? Or do you (perhaps like me ) think they're outdated and that actually you'd be better off putting in a double sink to get that "luxury/top end" feel?

I'm with the double sink brigade. Had bidets, never personally used them for their intended purpose. Good for feet and toddlers who aren't that great at wiping.

I don't think they are a luxury. Would probably use it for other things (eg feet) and swear about the wasted floor space !

I wouldn't bother with a double sink though - just extra stuff to clean !

My cat can tell you they're a real luxury. You can curl up behind them, right over the hot water pipe, and snooze undisturbed.

The cat will be devastated when the bidet comes out!

Bidets are pretty dated - i always think of the clip form Crocodile Dundee.

Double sinks though - i know a couple of people with these and i don't get it. Is it to race your partner to see who can wash their bits the quickest? And as for teeth brushing BOAK - i can barely watch myself do it let alone DH swishing and spitting.

bidet - I think argh! not another thing to clean

we've not got one but MIL thinks she needs one having visited Europe loads. FIL is resisting! we're looking at houses to buy and TBH a bidet puts me off

I'd not be hugely keen on two sinks either. I'd much prefer to have storage for towels, spare toiletries etc

Bidet - I think "this bathroom hasn't been redecorated since the 80s"

having just said that, my Dad has one and they are very handy for washing small children's feet in when they have been running round the garden barefood all day!

Very good for keeping plant cuttings fresh. Mum used to use it for that when we went on holiday abroad.

I assume that the house owners are European. Excellent for British people wanting to soak dirty clothes or British children wanting to wash their Barbies.

(I too am baffled by the double sink thing - utterly pointless.)

I'd think 80s timewarp tbh. Do bidets come in any other colour than avocado?

Agree about the double sink thing - we have separate bathrooms to avoid divorce.

I've always wondered how bidets work. I can't imagine they do much cleaning without friction.

Anyway, I would think 'pointless' if I saw a bidet in a bathroom. I would think 'pointless' if I saw a double sink too. I'd rather have more storage space.

We had a lovely brown bidet in our student house. It was always full of soaking socks and knickers, so it's doesn't evoke 'luxury living' for me.

Rather than a double sink or bidet, I would invest in better quality fittings.

The last bathroom showroom I went to had two white bidets outside the front door, full of soil, presumably for use as planters though there were no plants in them. Just soil. The effect was not attractive .

Maybe it means even bathroom showroom people have given up on them. Personally, I would find it offputting. Double sinks mystify me too. I'm with bumpybecky and ShatnersBassoon -- storage gives a bathroom a quality feel for me, along with a decent countertop surface, nice lighting and good quality mirror cabinets .

Who ever uses double sinks though? I don't want to be using the bathroom at the same time as anyone else?

If there is already a separate shower and bath, then OK, put in a double sink, other wise use the bidet plumbing for a separate shower.

I'd definitely put in a double sink (or maybe just a nice large one). DH and I often brush our teeth at the same time and a double sink would save all that elbowing out of the way when we need to spit

Don't understand bidets though and I do think they are dated/very European.

my parents (in their 70s) are obsessive about bidets and have always had them put in their bathrooms - i am currently house hunting and they like to point out that 'oh dear, there's no space for a bidet' as if this was a deal breaker.

having said that, i dont' see the point of double sinks unless its the only bathroom in the house, in which case i can see it might be useful. but i think i'd rather use the space for a big cupboard for towels/cleaning products/make up etc.

Well speaking as someone with a foreign husband ... a bidet is something he really wants!

Don't see the point in either - for a luxury bathroom feel I'd go for a really swanky bath.

I don't get bidets. What are you supposed to do? Just sit in a shallow pool of water? Why? Are they for people who can't manage the complexities of arse wiping? Genuinely baffled.

I'd love a double sink in my bathroom at the moment - 3 DDs to get washed/teeth brushed etc. However, I can see that maybe this is a short-term thang, as they're currently 6,4 and 2 and do not mind sharing the bathroom. All this will probably have changed by the time tey are 16, 14 and 12..............

Exactly chickens....how do you 'dry' yourself afterwards? Esp if in a strange bathroom.... It's all a bit 'overkill' - but then maybe i do teeny ladylike shits...

I thought they are used in East , in muslim countries. No? Ok and in Turkey.

who uses double sinks? large families do.

the house where I grew up in had only one bathroom and originally one sink and a bidet. my parents switched the bidet for a second sink. (eighties, beige bathroom suite).
at least this way all 4 children could wash at the same time in the mornings...
