school closed for no apparent reason

We have had some snow here in NW Essex but not too bad and school has been open all week, although we were encouraged to take them home early on Wednesday. Today school is closed and I have no idea why - no more snow overnight. Yes it froze overnight but it has done all week. I think the headmistress couldn't be bothered.... Anyone who works in a school suggest why? any other schools done this? The reason on the website was `the weather'. If not open on Monday I am taking my children away somewhere for the week. They are confused and bored - Christmas holidays over and need to go back. Don't schools have a commitment to open? (state primary)

what am I being unreasonable about? how do I know it's been on other threads? why are you all so unpleasant? I thought this was supposed to be a supportive website

What an odd OP!

As if a school wouldnt open because the HT couldnt be bothered!

DH got into work in London at 6.30am but we couldnt walk to school because of the ice on the roads so school is closed.

HT would have to explain to the LEA why she wasnt opening so sometimes things aint as simple as they seem.

rainbowinthesky · 08/01/2010 18:07

What a nasty op. I find it quite sad that your dh is a governor yet you feel it's okay to call the head of your child's school thick. If I thought this of my child's head I'd move them because otherwise who would be the stupid one.....

Ferncottage · 08/01/2010 18:08

I am perfectly happy with being disagreed with - it's the sheer unpleasantness and venom that is upsetting - plus lack of sense of humour about headmistress joke

WHERE DID I CALL THE HEADMISTRESS THICK?

It seems it is sense of humour if you do it, and venom if someone else does it.

Incidentally, I have serious doubts about the closures of the primary schools around here (everybody else seems to be able to get into work, no other workplace that I have heard of is closed and there is no ice on the roads, buses running on time etc, yet one primary school out of 7 is open).

MerlinsBeard · 08/01/2010 18:10

there was a reason on the website - The Weather. What more detail did you need???

WOuld some explanation of HOW the school was affected by the weather have been better for you? Maybe get your DH To mention it at the next governors meeting and see how improvements can be made.

As for MN being a supportive site...it is but it doesn't mean that everyone agrees with what you are posting.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 08/01/2010 18:11

Fern - it wasn't an unreasonable question imho.

GossipMonger · 08/01/2010 18:11

ooh you need to develop a thicker skin for Mumsnet FernCottage.

Netmums might be more your thang!

Ferncottage · 08/01/2010 18:12

Of course not everyone agrees but the immediate replies are poisonous - I'm asking a question that's all

What do you need support for, OP?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/01/2010 18:14

I think the suggestion that HT couldn't be bothered to open school was bang out of order

anyway clicky here pliz

rainbowinthesky · 08/01/2010 18:14

No, I apologise you didnt. You said she couldnt be bothered. Just swap where I put "thick" and put in "can't be bothered". Same point though.

Ferncottage · 08/01/2010 18:14

well, boys are like dogs, I expect yours are because you are a bitch yourself

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/01/2010 18:15

There was one here closed as well, no reason givem, roads all clear and every other school open.

JollyPirate · 08/01/2010 18:15

My DS school opened Tuesday and Wednesday but closed yesterday and today due to the treacherous ice around the school. Local council HAVE gritted but it's made little difference - you also need to factor in the extra traffic the school run generates and whether or not you really want all that on the roads when the weather conditions are so bad.

MN is VERY supportive but not when someone being disagreed with starts chucking about threats to write nasty little articles in the press ....

Cybils · 08/01/2010 18:15
Shock
BoysAreLikeDogs · 08/01/2010 18:15

I am crying boo hoo

SoupDragon · 08/01/2010 18:15

"the immediate replies are poisonous"

No they're not. BALD asked whether you are thick which perhaps wasn't very polite but that's about it. Others just failed to agree with you on the whole.

Good lord, if you think this is poisonous I suggest you stay away from AIBU.

rainbowinthesky · 08/01/2010 18:15

There are a lot of teachers on this website so when you say one can't be bothered with no evidence you are bound to have people objecting.

Ferncottage · 08/01/2010 18:16

mn was very unsupportive before I even mentioned an article in the press - you're all fucking bitches

OP posts:
EccentricaGallumbits · 08/01/2010 18:16

is it not fairly obvious why theschool is closed, the reason osted on the website is 'the weather', there is snow and ice on the ground andthe News programmes are full ofnothing but the fact that Britain is going through a bit of a cold spell.

what other reason should you possibly need?

rainbowinthesky · 08/01/2010 18:17

You'll win no friends threatening to write an article slagging us off!

MerlinsBeard · 08/01/2010 18:17

Threats will only get you venom on MN especially if that threat is to write a lazy story.
