wierd school photo?

DS1 is 7 and just had school photo done. He is leaning forward, waist up, on to a sheepskin/fur throw - which looks really really odd and quite hideous.

He looks fab, as always!

So the cheapest package is £19.50 and NO THANKS, the odd sheepskin has put me right off?

What about your kids school photo's - anything odd?

TBH, I prefer the leaning-on-sheepskin with plain white background at our primary to the improbably blue, yet implausibly cloudy sky that DDD1 is propped up against in her secondary photo.

Not waist up, though - more chest height, and not too much sheepskin on display.

When ds1 had his school photo done in reception year they sat him at a desk with an exercise book and pencil as if he was writing something. It was a really weird rigid pose, of him sort of looking slightly down with a rigid, false smile on his face.

I nearly sent it back saying they had sent home the wrong child's photograph. It didn't/doesn't look anything like him. That was the only year that the grandparent's didn't get a copy of his school photo for christmas.

I was honestly gobsmacked when I realised it actually was him, especially as he is really photogenic. I've never seen a bad photograph of him before or since.

When my ds2 was 4, they sat him in the pose of "The Thinker" WTF! Totally unatural. I didn't buy it obviously.

Ours too have the same pose and the same grubby sheepskin, pretty disappointed tbh, dd looks uncomfortable and not at all a natural smile.

We've had the same sheepskin "leaning over a desk" photograph. It's not a good photo but I bought it because it's a school photo and I'd like a small album of all her school photos to see how she changes (for her as much as for me!).

I suspect this is the same company across the country. The cheque had to go to Cornwall and I don't live anywhere near there.

Oh I so much prefer the traditional school photo!

Mind you, DD's summer photo this year as taken sat outside, so the background is greenery, which is nice. Also as it is outside it has a real natural light to it.

I also find school photos give children a not quite right type of smile/pose regardless though.

I buy them for the same reason as alison56 - to have the year on year changes.

When the ds's were at playgroup they had a photographer who took informal shots of the children, just wandered around and captured each child as and when. They make for really natural pictures and they were in black and white too which made the even more atmospheric. I really felt they captured my DS's true expressions.

Since they've been at school we have just had the usual tedious sitting in front of a blank wall ones.

I think my DD is quite a pretty girl but her photo this year was just hideous. She is gurning and her hair looks really odd.

I rarely buy them but may just get these ones for when she is a teenager and brings home a boyfriend that I don't like.

Another one here with a photo of a child leaning awkwardly over some grubby sheepskin. People will be able to date these photos in 10 years time - "Ah yes, that the sheepskin year - so 2009".

And DS3 is very photogenic but looks just plain weird in this. He looked OK in the proof, but that was tiny and had the word PROOF stamped over it, so was hard to tell.

not seen dd's school photo yet, but round here they are the traditional type that we used to get when I was a child. Not a sheepskin in sight! dd's last 2 have been nice. The company that does them is next door to my office!

We've had those sheepskin ones too, nice photo of dd & as she's 4 think she can get away with it but for an older child esp boy can imagine it looks a bit wierd. Can't see her uniform either which seems strange for a school photo.

Just had my boys' school photo.

They have taken one picture of them both together, standing back to back with their arms folded across their chests. Ds2 looks okish but ds1 has the most hideous tooth baring grin across his chops.

I will buy it for continuity sake, but can't help feeling I've been robbed - again!

I've got a really nice nursery photo of DD2, leaning over a sheepskin. It's a very clean sheepskin, mind you!

Wouldn't like it for school-age children.

We had an unusual school photo. DD was in her school uniform but with bare feet sitting on the ground with a totally white background. Quite nice bit still preferred the usual close up with blu background. £14 for one larger,two medium sized and four smaller (but not tiny) photos.

We've got the same problem cat64. If it wasn't such a good photo of dd I wouldn't have ordered any either, but we've had to go for some vast amount of small photos just to get a couple of biggish ones. Really irritating.

Yesturday I got both of them in their uniform, one primary and one pre-school sitting in front of a cream wall and I now have a lovley school photo which will cost me pence!

Dh has seen the photo of our boys this weekend and hates it. Wwe have decided to do the same as you - get them into their uniforms, freshly washed, hair brushed and lovely looking (unlike the school photo) and take one ourselves.

Voila, lovely school picture we can print off as many times as we like for hardly any cost at all.

Forgot to say, does anyone else's school offer to photograph pre-school siblings and babies in a sibling group photo as well. Quite a few people took them up on this, so am I the only one who finds it odd to have a non-school child in a school photograph?

We had a really nice photo actually - kids were pictured on their own and then a big class photo had them in small groups then photoshopped into one pic (does thatmake sense?)
