DS1 is 7 and just had school photo done. He is leaning forward, waist up, on to a sheepskin/fur throw - which looks really really odd and quite hideous.

He looks fab, as always!

So the cheapest package is £19.50 and NO THANKS, the odd sheepskin has put me right off?

What about your kids school photo's - anything odd?

But I have also had hideous school pix and not bought them, then done one like others, child in our garden in uniform.

we haven't gpt ours back yet but think I might just get her reception one for prosperities sake

her nursery ones were awful the group one split them up in groups and made the picture really long and disjointed I hated it so didn't but it

I do think school photos are the one type where you should stick with tradition

Min e had the sheepskin thing two years ago and they looked really nice. Think they were Tempest.

Now the school has gone all arty farty with Alethea SImpson or whatever the name is and the photos are horrible. The class photos were the kids all in differet positions leaning against each other hands in pockets not even looking at the camera. Dd's last year was her sitting in a circle in the middle of a concrete playground.

This years are marginally better, an Ok one of the two of them together on the field, a fairly nice one of dd (apart from her hair hasn't been brushed) with the church in the background but the one of ds is leaning against what looks like a telepgraph pole hands in pockets.

Needless to say I won't be buying them and will take them to a local photographers instead.

Actually not even leaning against the telepgraph pole but hugging it!

Ours have reached the sheepskin stage this year - I complained bitterly. It looks awful and not what I want from a school photo at all. Of course I now have the choice of stumping up and therefore validating their idiotic photo choice or not doing and having to go without a photo - the first of about 80 school photos that have come home over the years.

To me a school photo is a classic shot, standard and simple, about the child not the photographer.

A portrait - that you go and pay for in a studio - covers all the arty farty leaning/lolling/looking away.

I would have been quite happy if they had simply included a line on the permission slip "this year we are trying something a bit newer, would you like that or stick to the classic style?" it would have created minimal extra admin and avoided the strongarm "thout shall conform" tactics that I hate so much!

had the ds's done earlier- was a 'modern' shot, them laying on a white background- ok but you can't even see their school badge so it could have been taken anywhere (well anywhere where they would be wearing matching blue jumpers, white polo shirts and grey trousers ) bit p'd off as would have liked the first 'school' photo for ds 3&4 to be at least recognisable as taken at ysgol ..... etc!

It's DD's second year in school and both last year's and this year's photos (of her and DS, now also in school) were appalling.

Last year they just looked gormless, while this year DD isn't even looking at the camera (and this is a posed portrait affair, not a 'relaxed' number!).

They're both usually fairly amenable and photogenic and I just can't understand why, in this age of digital photography where the photographer can see the picture on the camera screen straight away, they turn out duff shots like this.

We're going down the same route as some of the rest of you - taking our own photos and printing them out for next to nothing! Bah!
