and how many teachers. Today i took ds1 into class as he really didnt want to go. I could only see the teacher and not the classroom assisstant even though there are 30 children in the class.All the kids were struggling to put their things away etc some were crying to their mummies the door was wide open so children could easily of walked out without the teacher noticing.

There just didnt seem enough staff to settle the children. I ended up sneaking out whilst ds didnt notice as there was no one to take him from me i could then hear him calling me. I stood outside of his view to make sure he didnt run out.It just didnt seem safe. I know this isnt the teachers fault. But there just didnt seem like there was anyone there to deal with any of the upset children or the ones who were struggling whilst the teacher conducted the class. Cant wait for ds2 to start pre-school so i can volunteer there.

DS is in Year 1 now, but there were 2 classes of 30 in his Reception year. Each class had a teacher and nursery nurse and there were 3 shared teaching assistants.

I would worry about there being no one on the door (at DS's school a teaching assistant stands by the door from when it opens until school starts). I would think the morning chaos is slightly because it is the beginning of the term and a lot of the children are trying to find their feet. Am sure it will calm down soon.

It's a two class intake and is always oversubscribed.

They have a teacher and a TA per class, the teacher takes the children in once they have lined up outside, and he Ta and teach then help them once they are in. It is bedlam, but the children get used to it very quickly, and it does seem to work!

There are 2 classes of 30 children at my Ds's school - one teacher and classroom assistant per class.

At the beg. of school day the children are left to go through a gate before they go in to the classroom building itself and are kind of left to get on with it. One of the EYFS objectives is for the children to be able to separate from carer and get themselves ready for the day - more worrying to me would be the idea that a child could easily have left the building ...

DS1 has just started reception this week and there will be 30 children in the class. 1 teacher (although it is a job share) and one TA. However, only 8? started this week and he seems really happy. Your situation sounds very different. We certainly had no scenes like that.

Perhaps they should change how things are done.

Actually, I was a bit put out with the staggered start and half time for 2 weeks...but I can see why it is a good idea now.

28 in dd's class (and there is another reception class). One teacher and one TA per class. I see that dd hangs up her coat then send her in with her book bag - I don't hand her over to anyone and never have. On the first day I settled her at a seat myself but over the week withdrew so that now I don't go into the class room. It IS very chaotic and there really isn't room for all the parents to go in unless dc really needs it.

The lack of care over dc leaving the class is a worry - worth mentioning to the teacher.

30 kids, one teacher, one F/T TA, one P/T TA, various students and parent helpers around.

4 classes of about 30 at reception level, and at least 2 teachers to every class. It seems fairly manageable.

Gosh, feel v fortunate here, though it is a rural village school. Reception is class of 11 with 1 teacher and 1 F/T TA plus 1 parent helper.

You should all feel very pleased, the legal requirement is one teacher per 30 children!

One class of 22 with one teacher and one nursery nurse - also village school.

My ds is also at a rural school with an intake of 8 with a teacher and a 2ta's shared with yr1/2 in a mixed class.plus parent helpers to listen to reading.

8 in my DDs class and 1 TA, although numbers increase slightly over the year, as they allow children to start at the schoolthe term after their 4th birthday.

Very lucky , but is small rural school.

DS's Y3 class is huge - 19!!

Think it's 2 classes of 16 each with a teacher and TA each. Plus, some classes are taken with some of Y1 as well. State school, urban.

40 kids between 2 loosely grouped classes, 2 teachers and 2 TAs to that group. In theory 20 kids per class but lots of moving between the 2 class groups for activities - especially the less structured ones.

Would appear ds is very lucky.

30, 1 teacher, and usually 1 ta. there are other ta's who will step in when needed.

I think there are about a dozen or so in DD's class (there are 2 Reception classes) with a Teacher and a TA. I know there are some more due to start in January but don't know how many.

Class of 28 four to five year olds, with one teacher here.

They have two breaks in the school day (9 till 1:45)and play with only one teacher supervising the playground with 230 students going up to 12yo.

I think DD is in shock.
