Does anyone know if there's a map which shows whereabouts in the country the highest achieving state schools are?

Just wondered if anyone knows if a map exists showing 'hotspots' of high achieving (not just academically but social/pastoral) schools. ie those graded 1 or a mixture of 1&2.
Just interested as we may have to move again soon.

Ofsted would be your first point of call. Doubt very much they would have the balls to publish a map showing Ofsted gradings though (I assume you mean ofsted grade 1 and 2?)

Is there an educational value in publishing "hotspots"? Sounds inflammatory to me and of no use to education itself, surely. Quite good for house prices but I'm not sure that's what Ofsted is about.

I thinkit would be quite informative and may even be enlightening to parents in the SE who think all such schools are south of Watford. Though personally I'm looking for one for far more practical reasons.

The Times and The Guardian publish annual tables of what they consider to be the top performing schools in the country (ie England).
Perhaps that could be a starting point for you?
I don't believe they use Ofsted grades in it though, rather NC attainment.

There is a very strong link between wealth and educational achievement. That is the broad picture, for a detailed view go to the DCSF website. They have performance tables. You put in the local authority name and you'll get a list of all school results in that area. The lists are alphabetical order. The BBC has tables listed in local authority order.

Totally agree that's not what OFSTED is about. I think it would be a good tool for parents needing to relocate to an area they know nothing about.

The grades are already available of the ofsted website, I'm just surprised no-one has collated the info in such a way.

You can search by postcode on the Ofsted site though mrc - most people move to an area due to their work or family reasons, not because of the schools there.

But, most of the big cities in this country are surrounded by 4,5 or 6 different LEAs. Just would help me decide which one to plump for living in IYKWIM.

Basically, DH's company have offices in two other cities. Will probably have to move to one for 2 or 3 years. Interested in school attainment levels for each area.

Well- Ofsted's search by postcode goes on distance as the crow flies, rather than which authority, so it should be fine using their search facility.
You could always ask for recommendations on here (mn) if you're crazy brave enough!

Catchment maps are cagey enough, but you can usually search by postcode.

Ofsted maps would be very telling I think. I would be interested in seeing grades mapped. I think it would be interesting to overlay against map of social deprivation.

Hmm, mapping Ofsted grades... I have a calling.... How much would people pay for that information I wonder?

Cities are Birmingham and Bristol.
Current LEA is Cheshire and I understand that around Manchester there are about 6 LEAs some excellent, others dire.
A county or more specifically LEA type map would be helpful and easy rather than making up a Birmingham postcode and putting a 10mile radius on the ofsted website.

If your children are around 10/11, you may want to check whether the authorities have a grammar system still or whether they are three-tier. That may be something you want to take into account. Trafford for example does have 11 plus, and v good results.

I suspect a law though, because round these parts the estate agents haven't produced said map of catchments and by god they would be popular with some.

Instead they all allude to 'good' school in info.

Slur, thanks but I would feel quite awkward 'barging' in and saying,'Right, I want to live in an area were all the schools are outstanding. Tell me where that is please.' Accessing a map seems less inflammatory somehow.
