Schools in Salisbury

Does anyone have any experience of primary schools in Salisbury, or the villages around it? We are considering a move out of London, mainly due to school issues, and we have lots of family in Salisbury but have no idea with regards to schools and whether I am better staying put where we are.

Have had a brief look on Ofsted but would love to know whether anyone had any recommendations/tips.

Whereabouts are you looking? There are an awful lot of primaries in this area. Let me know which part and i'll see if i can help.

Bear in mind as well that this is a Grammar school area, and the secondary situation is a bit dire.

To be honest, I am not exactly sure where in Salisbury we would be. To narrow it down, it is probably likely to be city centre-ish as despite all the lovely villages we are moving from London and I don't want to be dependent on my car all the time. But if you've got any tips on where is nice/not nice I'll take those too

Ooh thanks, will begin by looking those up. I think I'm going to be working backwards a bit, find school and try and fit into catchment area as I well and truly screwed that one up here in good ol london town.

I know Broad Chalke, is v pretty and family are in Wilton but just not sure about that far out.

Am in love with all the villages along the old A36 but still can't get my head round ruralness of them and also dh will be doing the odd commute to London.

x-posted with you cod, but that is really helpful. all for a bit of biased advice as am staking my married life on possibility of moving. dh works in the city (london) so will be commuting couple of days a week and just not convinced about moving. be honest, tell me what its like living in salisbury.

tis true, a36 a killer, one set of gparents live in wilton the other westbury and when i go between the two have started going past tisbury and through hindon. now there is a pretty village but too far away from trains.

i always notice the county set at the organic corner of the market! happy to have a bit of quiet, am loving the sound of toy town!

umm swindon, now there's a place. am a wilts girl at heart, went to school in devizes and there are def some interesting corners of the county.

Unfortunately luckywinner i am probably no good to you as we are in the villages heading upto the A303.

We did look at Gomeldon, and it is really good - but we found it a little too exam/standard orientated. The reception was lovely, all colourful, lots of displays.....and then it kinda went to desks in lines and grey for the rest of the years

We settled on a small village school, but out in the villages you do/will need transport. The village the school is in has a small convienience store and a hairdresser - no pub ! but a lovely stream, views and a church

def want to avoid the ones fixated on league tables.

yep, we moved from Sandhurst/Camberley.

Things i love : less traffic, lovely views, less people, more open space for a family and people seem to be more friendly.

things i'm not keen on : lack of shopping/ amenities/culture - having to go to Salisbury or Andover is a pain.

But we love the quiet life.....and Tesco deliver most things we need
