Child came home with the wrong uniform

Hi,
my child came home with someone else’s jumper and I realised when we had gotten home, they gave his to a different child as soon as it was the next day I had handed the jumper back to his teachers. I have been asking for my child’s one back for almost a week now he had only worn it for not even half a day! I am getting a bit frustrated now and need answers on what steps I can take next as uniform is not cheap…
what’s annoying is my child is in age 5-6 years and he came back with an age 3-4 years the sleeves were half way up his arms so how did they not realise.

We lost a brand pair in yr3. My child came home in an old pair the size smaller. Never got them back. £40 down the plus hole

This happened once to my son at kindy with shoes. He had brand new shoes and another kid had the same shoes but smaller and old. They sent my son home in the old too small shoes and the other boy home in the new (named) shoes. We did eventually get them back but it took a few weeks.

Why do so many people seem to think busy school staff are responsible for their child's uniform?

"They sent my son home in the old too small shoes and the other boy home in the new (named) shoes" - this suggests you clearly believe the staff physically re-dress the children after they take their shoes off for an activity. If he has the same shoes as his friend, they obviously mixed them up themselves when re-dressing. School staff may notice if a child has put shoes on the wrong feet, they're not going to notice if they have someone else's shoes on! The fact you say your son's shoes were named should be the clue here that it's not school staff's fault as they're not going to hand the other child those shoes. Clearly the children simply didn't check.

Errors like this happen all the time. It's all part of gaining independence, learning to be responsible for one's things. It's absolutely ridiculous to blame the school. Their job is to teach your child, not dress him!

This is all part and parcel of school I'm afraid. My kids are forever losing stuff, it makes it's way back home eventually. It's way more annoying in secondary school when they lose their expensive blazer/pe kits 🤦
