How much do you pay for after-school clubs?

Hello!

Just quick question; wondering the average people pay for after-school clubs; roughly 1 hour or 1.5 hours. Just to be more specific, this is an after-school club and not after-school care.

Interested primarily in those who have children in the North West, but happy for all to input.

Thanks,
JuiceBoxJuggler

At our old school it was £2 per session, 1 hour long.

Current school it's free and clubs are 50 mins.

This is for things like choir, art club, sports clubs, Lego club etc.

ours is £2.25 now, it was £2 until this term. It runs until 4pm.

CelesteCunningham · 08/05/2024 10:09

Do you mean a club as in a hobby? It will vary hugely depending on the activity, can you be more specific?

ThePartyArtist · 08/05/2024 10:09

Our school outsources to companies, I think we pay about £6 for a 1 hour after school sports club?

Apologies, it is STEM/Computing related.

Do you mean a school run extra curricular club?
They vary from free to £10 a half term at our school (art bring the most expensive).

But there's a couple of outside providers, where its about £4 a week

I'm in NI, we pay £6 for a one hour coding class for our 6yo once a week if that's any use. :)

I believe it is a third party - or private business - that runs this.

Costs are currently £9 per session, just wanted to see what others were paying. Don't mind paying as Computing/STEM isn't as strong in the primaries where we live so it would give them that uplift ready for KS3.

After school football club is £4 here, I’m in the east of England.

Gymmum82 · 08/05/2024 10:14

Do you mean within the school? Or external to school?
Paid after school clubs within the school are between £7-£15 a session depending on the type of club. External clubs are £25-50 monthly depending on the activity

It is held within school - seperate company; not school staff.

Our school don't charge for clubs held in the school. They contract in the other companies and cover the cost themselves. There are various sports/STEM/drama clubs on each week

This is amazing - I don't think many would cover it in our area.

I'm paying £6-£7 for after school football and gymnastics. They are run by external providers. This is at the school fields and halls. If it's STEM/Computing, I'd expect to pay more.

SpringBunnies · 08/05/2024 10:26

The £6-7 is per session, not for a whole term.

This is what I thought too - thank you. £9 does seem reasonable.

Reasonable is what parents are willing and able to pay.

I think the majority of patents at DDs school would laugh if you suggested an hours club for that...

Clubs are part of the wraparound care at our school as it is so small. It’s £4.10 for 1hr 3.30-4.30.
Then after school care continues 4.30-5.30
for another £4.10.

crisplist · 08/05/2024 11:26

Science/coding clubs are free at school for us. Some other clubs like ballet and drama are around £10 per session.

NerrSnerr · 08/05/2024 11:29

We pay £10 per term for all after school clubs. They're all run by school staff.

JuiceBoxJuggler · 08/05/2024 11:35

It seems that there is no one fit solution and/or cost. I believe, it may also be down to areas in the country, counties, towns/villages or the type of primaries etc.

For what, the £9 per session?

Yes.
For full context... we pay a total of £30 per month for all our DDs extra curricular activities. Thats school clubs, sports and Scouts, for 2 children.

People only tend to pay that much for swimming.

Computing and STEM are run by teachers for free.

What a fantastic deal you get! Jealous.

School run clubs are 4.50 per week, clubs run by outside companies such as tennis are around £90 per term.
