Opinions please: parents smoking outside of the the school gates….

Not ideal but if they are outside I don't see what the problem is. Presumably you can walk a few steps away if you don't like the smell.

What's your opinion on it?

Outside the school gates is, presumably, public space so same as smoking anywhere else. I couldn’t get worked up about this.

Doesn't really bother me, to be honest, there's only a couple that do it and they tend to stand back a bit.

Annoys the stuffing out of me! Just the fact that so many children have to walk past them 🙄. Before kicking out time I don't mind but after it's just annoying! We also have a very narrow alley way beside the school and they always smoke walking down there which then just tunnels back straight into your face 🤢

I'm not a fan of smoking and obviously not much can be said its a public place but it is frustrating!

I think it’s grim. Have to walk past with my pram with a group puffing away is not nice.

I'm an ex smoker, DH is a smoker, most of my friends are smokers....not a single one of them would smoke outside the school gates or around children at all.
It's very disrespectful to all the other children who have to walk past them to get into the school. Similar to smoking outside a restaurant front door or the entrance to a hospital.

I'd be tempted to email the school and ask if they can request parents move away from the school gates to smoke. They can't force them to, but they certainly can ask.

I think that's disgusting, I wonder if even legal? Like hospitals have no smoking zones even outside so maybe the same for schools? Talk to the school or council and see if they can do anything

I think it's grim, and I inwardly judge them. I also make a point of watching them as they throw their butts on the floor in the hope that it'll shame them into picking it up (it never does!). It bothers me that the children see them do that, and think it's acceptable.

Selfish, ignorant twats. Why can't they walk further away with their stench? There was a man at my bus stop puffing away last week. Triggered my cough but no, he didn't move, just gave me a filthy look when I walked away a bit.

They used to smoke in the playground with cigarettes held at child's eye level. Stopping this took years.

I think we should be working on phasing out smoking completely but smokers tend to agree with me. I think a permanent ban on buying cigarettes for anyone born after say 2008 or 2010 would be a very good idea.
And the school should have a sign asking parents to refrain from smoking outside the gate.
