Why aren't kids at school?

So today I went to my local town and I saw at least 15 kids of school age 5-10 not at school, just out and about with parents?

Are people not sending kids to school?

Home educated maybe

PatriciaHolm · 30/09/2022 21:05

The obvious answer would be an inset day.

Squirrelonwheels · 30/09/2022 21:05

You’re right, there are no children at school anymore at all.

Katapolts · 30/09/2022 21:06

The most obvious thing is surely that a school was shut for a training day Confused

EVHead · 30/09/2022 21:06

No one can be arsed. Whole generation of snowflakes blah blah woke blah something something.

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/09/2022 21:07

What’s school?

DreamingofItaly2023 · 30/09/2022 21:08

Home education/inset day/private school with different term dates/tourists from countries with different term dates

I went to town with my son and his friend today - they are primary aged and had an inset day.
The local secondary did too
.

OpposableThumbs2 · 30/09/2022 21:13

Mine had an inset day today too.

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 30/09/2022 21:21

It's half term in Scotland this week .

ThisShipIsSinking · 30/09/2022 21:23

Someone asked me once why my two weren' t at school, my husband had just died very suddenly.

It's half term in Scotland this week .

In some places maybe? I’m in Scotland and we don’t break up until 14 October.

ChiefFinderOuter · 30/09/2022 21:32

We had an inset day today too.

HauntersGonnaHaunt · 30/09/2022 21:33

Why didn't you get in their faces and ask them?

Shellyxx · 30/09/2022 21:34

Thanks for the idea. I'll do that next time.

Seems like a plan without any flaws.

My dd had two inset days this week. Yesterday and today.

Xiaoxiong · 30/09/2022 21:43

Exeat weekend for my kids' school, I took them to town for lunch and the dentist and ran into half their class doing the same thing.

Hellocatshome · 30/09/2022 21:44

Inset day, medical appointments, home school, family issues, couldn't be arsed, parents dont give a shit. The reasons are varied and many.

JassyRadlett · 30/09/2022 21:47

11+ exams around here so masses of Y6 out of school for part or whole days from September to November.

Or they could be like we were in Australia in August when lady came up to demand why my children weren't at school; we were on holiday from a different country!

SpinningFloppa · 30/09/2022 21:47

Home educated?

YourUserNameMustBeAtLeast3Characters · 30/09/2022 21:48

Lots of insets today (no idea why seems pretty random. We always used to have a late sept one too though)

Beepbeepenergy · 30/09/2022 21:52

Inset day today mine was off school today

mamma2013 · 30/09/2022 22:00

I noticed the same thing yesterday and said the same thing to my husband. Loads of kids all different ages so doubt it was inset days for every school in the area? It was like half term
