Last year, maths groups started at circles, then went through triangles, squares, pentagons and hexagons. This year I haven't got a clue how they've labelled them. Literacy groups last year were Ants, bees, Caterpillars, Dragonflies, Earwigs. Dd's are Ants, Drums, Jellies, Snakes and one other that I can't remember. Maths are rectangles, triangles, circles, squares. (no logic to that one, unless you consider that a rectangle is stretched)

My dd was in Parentheses and Indices in year 6!

Year 5 she was Snickets and Circles.

In ds's year 2 class, the tables are names after the person who sits facing the teacher. Very clever - she moves them round to keep the parents guessing. Ds was on Patrick's table last week - this week he's on Isabelle's. Same table, different seat!

Spelling groups are stars, spaceships and rockets. Maths same as cod. Reception were names of animals

Through year three, it goes from blue (higher ability), green, purple, red then yellow (lower ability) tables. Then in year four, they mix it up a bit and have named mixed ability tables, but for certain subjects, they are still in the same colour codes.

Names of precious stones.

DS is a Crystal.

But they are genuinely mixed tables - i think the teacher tries to achieve a balance on each table. Don't know if they get divided up differently for different tasks...all too subtle for DS if they do!

tortoiseSHELL · 27/11/2007 11:03

The maths ones last year I did laugh at - circles were the 'top' group, with '1 side' - dh and I argued that actually a circle should be the bottom group, as it is technically an infinite number of points, but that didn't seem to persuade the teacher...!

Enid · 27/11/2007 11:04

nope none here

it sounds horribly twee

colditz · 27/11/2007 11:05

Submarines, boats, areoplanes and rockets.

Apparently "Rockets do the hardest work" but he might be saying that because he thinks I want to know who puts the most effort in, and he is in the Rockets.

Slouchy · 27/11/2007 11:05

Animals.

dd is a zebra.

PussinWellies · 27/11/2007 11:15

Hmmm... not sure of the full rankings, but I do know that we have Dragonflies and Grasshoppers for Literacy.
As in 'I'm not a GRASShopper any more, Mummy. I've been PERMOTED to Dragonflies for my exlent litrussy.' Smug brat.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 27/11/2007 11:17

3D shapes for maths - DD1 is a sphere.

But their tables are animals - DD1 is a rabbit. Another table are 'goats' which I find terribly funny.

HuwEdwards · 27/11/2007 11:17

in Reception they are teddies, moons, teacups, and others after nursery rhymes.

In Yr1, they are colours (dull dull dull)

In Yr2, they are names of roads from our area.

hunkermunker · 27/11/2007 11:21

Huw, I read that as teddies, MOONCUPS...

LOL at this thread.

moonmother · 27/11/2007 11:22

Dd in year 3 all the classes are named after trees,ie Holly,Willow,Chestnut etc etc.

In the classes tables are colours

They also have houses to win points for these they are named after local towns...

All very confusing to me..................
