Very silly question but I need to take proof of address down to dds school for primary school, is an unopened letter ok as proof of address? Don’t really want to hand in any personal letters and I don’t drive etc so can’t use license

It would normally need to be something "official" like a council tax bill, utilities bill etc. A normal letter probably won't be enough.

PumpkinKlNG · 15/07/2021 13:26

Ohh I don’t have any 🤔

Do you have the NHS App? that has your name and address on it and can be used as POR. Alternatively:
NHS Card
Online utility account screen shot with address on
Hospital letter
Dentists letter

Ask the school what they will accept.

Council tax bill is the best bet

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/07/2021 14:38

Last year the bank printed out my bank statement and it had my address on.

gogohm · 15/07/2021 14:38

Usually it's council tax, voter registration, benefits (eg child benefit), utility bill. Everyone should have one of those surely

PumpkinKlNG · 15/07/2021 14:41

I don’t want to give bank statements, basically don’t want to give anything personal, is an unopened letter ok or does it need to be open? I can ask them but need to hand it in today really

Driving licence?
They don't keep it, just need to see it.

PumpkinKlNG · 15/07/2021 14:45

I don’t drive

Unopened is no good, because you could have mocked it up and sent it to yourself.

You must have some paperwork with your name and address on it somewhere .

Megan2018 · 15/07/2021 14:46

It has to be opened yes. Any old letter in an envelope proves nothing. You could have typed it yourself!

Soontobe60 · 15/07/2021 14:47

For course it needs to be an opened letter - not just an envelope with your name on it. Are you trying to register for a place at the school? Surely you have a council tax bill?

Choice4567 · 15/07/2021 14:48

Internet provider bill? Electricity bill?

LIZS · 15/07/2021 14:51

It needs to be an official document like bank/cc statement, utility bill, council tax, dwp letter, child benefit, driving licence etc. Our bank statement has a header page with contact details but no entries.

PumpkinKlNG · 15/07/2021 14:52

They never send me bills i never get bills from utility companies ever, I don’t think they like to send out paper anymore I think loads have gone “paperless” I know my bank has and doesn’t send them out as standard anymore you have to request them.

OP posts:
LIZS · 15/07/2021 14:52

They will only take a copy, certify it and subsequently destroy the copy when its purpose is served, under gdpr rules for retaining personal data.

Coldilox · 15/07/2021 14:53

Council tax bills are still sent through the post.

Utility bills and bank statements can be printed out.

LIZS · 15/07/2021 14:54

You should be able to download a bill or statement.

LIZS · 15/07/2021 14:56

Nhs vaccination invite letter? Bank can print off a statement at a branch.

LesterKnopf · 15/07/2021 14:56

You can ask them to block out all info bar your name, address and the date when they photocopy it. They aren't going to read what's on it - they will be too busy and won't care how much is in your bank account / whatever info is on the document.

Megan2018 · 15/07/2021 14:57

I have downloaded and printed utility bills, they look exactly the same as the paper ones sent through the post so you can’t tell it is self printed.
The only paper bill we receive now is council tax though so we always have it to hand for ID purposes.

Managed to find a carers allowance letter, glad I did as the school printer is down and I won’t be getting it back till next week so definitely not just a “quick look”

DahliaMacNamara · 15/07/2021 20:24

I'm confident they won't be having a nosey at your personal information beyond verifying your address is as stated by you. They've probably set aside a time to do everyone's checks in one session.

Where is this paranoia coming from? Why on earth do you think they are the least bit interested in you and your personal info?

I don’t expect the school have photographed it and shared it around the staff Whatsapp! Hmm

PumpkinKlNG · 16/07/2021 00:09

Haha I don’t like handing my bank statements over to strangers! Sorry you find that “odd” obviously a lot of people drive so don’t hand over personal things like bank statements that will detail how much is in my account etc, sorry not comfortable with that, and it’s been sorted now, people on here said they would just need to quickly look at it but I’ve been told that’s not the case and I won’t get it back till Monday!
