Very silly question but I need to take proof of address down to dds school for primary school, is an unopened letter ok as proof of address? Don’t really want to hand in any personal letters and I don’t drive etc so can’t use license

Most people would just use a license etc don’t think many people would choose to hand bank statements over if they could avoid it

You'd hate our school then! I'm the nursery manager and our borough policy is council tax bill or 3 proofs of address, which we copy and keep in the child's personal file, which stays in school until they leave us then gets transferred to their following school.
I wouldn't be able to accept your application without the documents.

As you seem to mention bank statements repeatedly which I assume does show your current address - do you have other official bank hard copy letter communication?

Why not show the school a less invasive and confidential change of interest rate letter or something similar which does not directly indicate your bank balance. In addition if required a glimpse of your bank statement with just the bit showing the official letter head details and your same address and name and not any confidential information.

I am assuming you have multiple fixed addresses or perhaps in-between sale/rental/other properties? I hope this helps and not suggesting you or your school has pupils who are way out of the local catchment area (as from my personal experience with cheeky families cheating locals for a place) and families playing games pretending to be local enough etc.

This is simply a confirmative trust issue. If you are where you are living - the school just need to know for admin/communications (and child safe guarding if of concern here).

You sound a bit evasive but if nothing to concern the school just speak directly with them and explain how you gone paperless don’t drive or have any official car ownership paperwork etc and happy to email a screen shoot of an official government app eg healthcare etc or even electronic bank statement with just the bit confirming your name and address. There are so many ways to satisfy the school so that they can ensure they have all the basic need to know information for each family.

I’ve already handed in a letter.

Does the LA policy state you have to keep the proof of address until the child leaves?

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay we keep the information in their personal folder until they leave us and we then send it on to their new school, whether they reach yr 6 or leave after 6 months.
Thats going by our school office manager, who knows her shit.
