Based on discussion in another area of the site.. If your child is getting access to a decent amount from their school during lockdown, please can you list briefly what they are covering today, per day. This way other parents whose children are getting little or nothing from their school, may be able to replicate some of it at home. Thank you.

This thread is for Year 4

We were supposed to be back today but they've suspended all learning till tommorow.

A provisional timetable of timings and subjects has been posted but I'll feedback tomorrow with how that actually pans out in regards to work.

Soontobe60 · 05/01/2021 17:46

OP, are you a journalist looking for a story?

Doveyouknow · 05/01/2021 17:49

We have had maths, literacy, handwriting and topic work set today including some teaching videos. Much more than last time. I am very impressed but we are tier 4 so had a bit more warning than most about closure.

TinyTroubleMaker · 05/01/2021 17:49

Not at all, I'm trying to do something for parents and children whose schools, like ours, have made clear they'll provide little or nothing. These threads will only work if people want and prepared to use them. Can't see what news story anyone would get out of it Confused

Different schools will be at different points in the curriculum so it would be a bit pointless.... Most schools have a year 4 curriculum outline on their website you can check for topics / ask them for more support if you feel they aren't doing enough? Surely parents can find something vaguely educational to do for a couple of days though without help even if it's not exactly in keeping with the curriculum - there are loads of resources online now and they're not hard to find

BingPot99 · 05/01/2021 17:53

As in find something to do for a couple of days, giving the school a chance to get their act together if they haven't had much time to prepare

Msgiggles30 · 05/01/2021 17:57

Have you looked on oak academy? There are lessons for all year groups on there that you may find a help.

MutteringDarkly · 05/01/2021 18:28

Today was collecting the bundle of resources (textbooks, reading books, clean exercise books etc) the teachers had spread out in the playground so we could collect them safely, and getting the timetable sorted. They start properly tomorrow.

AaahWoof · 05/01/2021 18:57

Nothing.

Tomorrow they get 10 minutes of interaction with the teacher and some as yet unspecified tasks to complete.

Meltedwellie · 05/01/2021 19:09

Work identifying the correct cm on a line and changing cm to m and cm and vice versa and lots of variation on that to reinforce it.
Listening to a poem and discussing. Identifying technical terms in English like simile etc.

cansu · 05/01/2021 21:36

The only purpose in this thread is to help you to vent or have something to berate the school with. If your child is not receiving any work, speak to the school.

cansu · 05/01/2021 21:37

As someone has suggested, Oak academy has a whole schedule of lessons with videos for each year group.

AaahWoof · 05/01/2021 22:01

Aaand here we go.

I will continue to post if the work provided by the school is shite because I think that it is only fair for the FULL picture of the good schools and the poor schools to be made available so that when we look back at what a fuck up 2020-21 was - we can see the true picture.

Justforphoto · 05/01/2021 22:06

They sent a timetable including spellings that they said were on purple mash, they weren't there. They sent maths sheets which they were supposed to provide a link to, it wasn't there so would need to print the sheets to do the work. They sent a poem via a none working link.

On the surface it all looks good however so far it's not really coming up to scratch in the execution. I'm hoping it's just teething errors. (they also sent 5 days worth of work when yesterday was inset and only got at lunchtime today)

TheGreatWave · 05/01/2021 22:16

Mine is year 4. Learning starts tomorrow. (Yesterday was a PD day so today getting sorted)

Tomorrow we have some reading, reading comprehension (Demon Dentist on Oak Academy), adding two three digit numbers (oak academy) PE, and story. So seems tomorrow is a literacy day in the main.

They were fairly good last time though.

Just had another look and we have a little singing lesson too.

Well all work has been set on Google classroom which for some unknown reason will not load on DDs android tablet. We don't have a laptop to use. School have logged in their end and it's all OK. So god knows what the issue is there.
.
We ordered CGP books from school this year just in case and they've set work from there for us.
.
So we've had a 10 minute maths workout which she whizzed through.
She's had to read a book for 30 minutes but she finished her school book before Xmas and they never changed it so she read some Jaquelin Wilson.
Then the 60min maths lesson, cos we can't access it was 5 questions on times tables from the CGP book, write out the 11 and 12 times table and practice on Maths Shed for 10 mins. This has taken 20mins tops.
.
We've got some handwriting practice and a comprehension task which won't take long.
.
Then this afternoon they are being set topic work on Google classroom which is supposed to be art. But looks like that will be inaccessible so might get her to do one of the craft sets she got for Xmas.

Justforphoto · 06/01/2021 11:26

I'm officially impressed, the work my dd did yesterday has been looked at and fed back on, last time we didn't get a single bit of feedback. This has spurred my dd on and she is much more enthusiastic today.

TheGreatWave · 06/01/2021 13:25

Going ok so far though is not happy that she needs to do more this afternoon. She was most put out at the revelation that she will get more work tomorrow and can't just finish today's.

thismeansnothing · 06/01/2021 14:22

I've been sent this afternoon's artwork. There's some videos to watch first.

Now the school preach about internet safety, appropriate content, Have internet champions etc etc etc. Can't watch the videos as they arent availability mom YouTube kids.

I give up.

Norfolker · 06/01/2021 14:33

This is a great thread & so helpful to know what the other little ones are up. Great to see this support on mumsnet Smile

Yeah this has been a constant niggle of mine with the school relying heavily on chromebooks with the innate safety features meaning they can't open normal youtube - was a problem in "normal" times as well.

Something on the Ancient Greeks to research I think is what they're doing this afternoon. This morning she mostly bossed her sister about and tried to do her sister's work.

We started today with Maths - digital and analogue times converted into words am/pm 24hr clock i.e. 16.25 is twenty five minutes past four.

Then a story map entitled The Door. Additional challenge of picking any words out that aren't familiar, checking the meaning and putting them into a sentence of your own.

Science - looking at classification of animals and grouping them. Looking up the following words, confirming their meaning and using this also as the spellings for the end of week spelling test:
Habitat
Vertebrate
Invertebrate
Carnivore
Omnivore
Herbivore
Amphibian
Reptile
Classification
Organism
Species

Discuss a positive mental attitude for health. Think about what is a happy mind. Design a positive mind statement (we did this using the initials of DDs name which she then designed and saved on Purple Mash)

E Safety - online actions have consequences. Discuss how you use the internet. Do you message people? Post photos? Use websites? Do you know that websites record every visit by your computers Internet Protocol address. Make a digital footprint showing all the ways you use the internet. Compare with other members of your family.

That was pretty much it for today. Easing ourselves in gently. I think our school have come up with some good stuff in less than 24 hours to keep us going this week. I reckon they will step it up a bit next week.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2021 15:24

If your school isn't providing anything then maybe ask them when they intend to start?

BBC will have 3h a day of primary and secondary level educational viewing, each weekday, from Monday 11 Jan. That will be a start OP and then supplement it with a reading book and some PE (Just Dance/Joe Wicks). Done.

TinyTroubleMaker · 06/01/2021 15:48

I have, no response yet.
I'm not the only one in this situation hence all these threads on MN about it.
If this helps even one person I'm happy with that.
We don't have a tv, or a licence.
