Based on discussion in another area of the site.. If your child is getting access to a decent amount from their school during lockdown, please can you list briefly what they are covering today, per day. This way other parents whose children are getting little or nothing from their school, may be able to replicate some of it at home. Thank you.

This thread is for Year 4

We had a good day: maths (multiplying 3 separate numbers); PE (online dance lesson led by teacher); English (reading, discussing and then imagining themselves in the story and writing a new section); computing (e-safety discussion and quiz). Then a general check-in at the end of the day making sure everyone's OK.

just don't ask how much work I've been able to get done myself in the meantime

How has Oak Academy gone then OP? It is available on the internet which you do have? What did your child do today?

Did your child enjoy the Oak lessons on David Walliams? Have you got a child in every primary year group as you seem to be asking advice on every year group from reception Y6?

My year 4 child will get a 20 minute keeping in touch assembly once a week, and work set on class dojo every morning to be done that day. We’ve had maths worksheets and writing exercises today, with quick feedback from the teacher.

I’m Not convinced that 5 hours in front of teams/zoom is excellent for children abs whilst 20 minutes a week is better than the 3 zooms they got in total last year, it’s going to be pretty miserable :(

Maths: problem solving (pre recorded video lesson plus completion of a chapter of their maths book)

English: writing a recount of a past scary experience (pre recorded video lesson and then writing a few paragraphs

French: vocab (pre recorded video lesson plus writing out the relevant vocab)

RE: a thing about the school values

Plus 3 live video calls at start, middle and end of day

Pretty impressed for day 1

Today we've had :-
.
5 mins maths workout from CGP book.
.
5 questions on multiplying 3 numbers together. (Took all of 2 mins)
.
Handwriting (copying out 10 words three times each)
.
Comprehension task.
.
Worksheet on prepositions.
.
Oak academy video on organs and worksheet to complete.
.
Then she was supposed to watch a video on the school reading channel. Which. Suprise suprise. Isn't accessible on YouTube kids. School have now deemed that to be our problem not theirs. (Just following your guidance on safe internet use). We've also been unable to.do any of the work still on Google classrooms as the app is unworkable on a tablet. We've asked to borrow a laptop but been told no 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

My dd is in a prep which is doing full timetable of live lessons. Today is:

English - a comprehension about electricity (this is on twinkl if anyone has a subscription)

Music - invent your own percussion using eg keys, shaker made from stuff around the house and do changing tempo (faster/slower) and dynamics (louder, softer) and practise providing percussion in time to your favourite song

PE - often they use jump start Johnny videos which are all available free on YouTube / jump start Jonny site but today is led by PE teacher so may be a directed fitness session (eg do twenty star jumps, then 20 running on spot etc)

Spellings - all the statutory year 4 spellings are online I believe so easy to do at home

Maths - I haven’t got the worksheets yet but the OUP no nonsense maths books for age 8-9 cover the whole year 4 curriculum for around £6 so anyone not getting maths lessons could buy one from Amazon

We were up EARLY thanks to the toddler. So I've said for putting up with all the issues when she's done she can have an afternoon of Netflix.

Maths - 10 min maths workout. 5 questions on factors. Then a link to a game we can't play because you need a plug in that isn't supported on her tablet. We've done ten mins of maths shed to make up.

Literacy they apparently have a live lesson provided we can get into it.

This afternoon who knows. At school they'd normally do computing. But as we can't even get her tablet to do the basics lord knows what we'll be doing
