Based on discussion in another area of the site.. If your child is getting access to a decent amount from their school during lockdown, please can you list briefly what they are covering today, per day. This way other parents whose children are getting little or nothing from their school, may be able to replicate some of it at home. Thank you.

This thread is for Year 1

An excellent effort by my child's school. Full timetable drawn up on Google Classrooms, and resources uploaded included:

  • tricky words mat phases 2 - 5
  • all phonics sounds phases 2 - 5
  • a book read by a teacher, discussion of the book and suggested writing workshop activities
  • speedy maths, maths worksheet and links to online resources
  • different teachers delivering lessons in the split digraphs and suggesting exercises (sentence writing including tricky words, listing different words using the various ways to make the 'ay' sound)
  • I uploaded some of the work and had a response within the hour
  • daily class Google meets start tomorrow.

Bog standard large state primary.

We had to plant a bean, draw and label parts of a plant, go for a walk and look for plants. Daily reading, Ruth Miskin set 2 Sounds on YouTube
Hope that helps

Suzi7979 · 05/01/2021 18:47

We had a full day timetable
PE, phonics, maths, english and topic. All was live sessions and then had tasks to do after each subject which was handed in and marked by the teacher or assistant.

CakeQueen87 · 05/01/2021 18:52

An online maths activity, draw a picture and label it, practice writing some letters. It took us about 20 minutes. No feedback on the work we uploaded yet.
This is actually much better than what we got last time but reading about the offer elsewhere, I'm starting to think it still isn't that great

Cliffdonville · 05/01/2021 20:03

4 activities a day so far to be uploaded by 3, all marked by 5pm.

Today was:
Literacy - write something new you would like to learn / do this year with a PowerPoint about New Years resolutions
Phonics - Ay and Ai, a video explaining them and then writing a list of words
Maths - activity sheets about number bonds
Science - gathering materials from around the house and sorting them into categories.

honkytonkheroe · 05/01/2021 20:22

Not today, as the school was preparing for critical workers children to come in and for tomorrow's teaching and the next 2 weeks teaching to be uploaded. He starts on Microsoft teams tomorrow morning.

Littlecaf · 05/01/2021 20:25

Phonics
Maths
History
Read a book
Listen to a story
PE/movement
Handwriting

Basically the same as posters above - sounds like they are all doing the same thing on the same day!

pastaparadise · 05/01/2021 20:27

I've only had time to complete one activity - worksheets about nouns and some practice writing sentences. Nothing to submit for marking as far as i can see.

We went for a walk, did lego and baked a cake too. And 2 hrs screen time where i tried to do work.

How on earth are people managing full day timetables with jobs and other kids??

Cliffdonville · 05/01/2021 21:08

@pastaparadise I was off work today, tomorrow will be mostly screen time and bribing DD with snacks so I can have no interruptions during zoom calls. It's a nightmare, I will try and do as much as I can with her at lunch and in the evenings, but it won't be fun.

FreeButtonBee · 05/01/2021 21:18

Subtraction (practice and then three sheets to choose from)
What we did over Christmas (first day back today) with written sheet to follow
Phonics o-e sounds/words
Tall letter formation/handwriting
Re - special people and why we love them - colouring and 2 questions to answer

Inner London state primary - very mixed intake but strong school

FreeButtonBee · 05/01/2021 21:19

Everything submitted was commented on with individualised comments.

Onceuponatimethen · 05/01/2021 21:22

This! ^^

I'm in Scotland so official home learning doesn't start till next week.

I'm honestly dreading the idea of supervising them to sit down at specific times of day for extended periods.
I'm probably not going to engage with it tbh.

Anyway: today DD did some Reading Eggs. DS did a bit on Night Zookeeper. The both did some craft activities. DS went out to play for a bit.
I wrote some letters, replied to some emails and tidied the kitchen.
Everyone had something to eat.

APurpleSquirrel · 05/01/2021 23:26

Nothing today as school had to reorganise plans for online & remote provision. Will pick up DD's work pack tomorrow; 3 zoom lessons a week will start from Monday.
Topic will be the Polar Regions apparently.

Following this with interest. Great idea for a thread Star

bluechameleon · 06/01/2021 19:32

DS1's school are easing us and the teacher into it a little, so we aren't doing everything this week that we will be next week. Today there was:

  • Maths: splitting numbers 11-19 into tens and ones. Live lesson and worksheet.
  • Question of the day: what is your favourite colour?
  • Story time: Mr Birthday
  • Assembly with Head teacher (not live): Cat in the Hat story, school prayer(didn't know they had one), sang a song.
IPeedInThePool · 06/01/2021 21:03

Great thread

MynephewR · 06/01/2021 21:13

Can I just ask, can all your year 1's write complete descriptive sentences unaided?
