Based on discussion in another area of the site.. If your child is getting access to a decent amount from their school during lockdown, please can you list briefly what they are covering today, per day. This way other parents whose children are getting little or nothing from their school, may be able to replicate some of it at home. Thank you.

This thread is for Year 1

Mine can, but she's the oldest in her year, which makes a big difference at this stage.

APurpleSquirrel · 07/01/2021 17:30

Mine can but she too is the oldest in her year. She makes spelling & grammatical mistakes but it is readable.

CakeQueen87 · 07/01/2021 17:46

Only something very basic

GentlyGentlyOhDear · 07/01/2021 17:52

@ilkleymoorbartat
Mine needs me to sit and talk it through with him and cajole him into writing it. He is a July born and very reluctant writer. Really don't feel equipped to support him properly with an 8 month old baby and 7 year old to look after too Confused

Suzi7979 · 07/01/2021 19:10

Today

Art
Phonics ( IR, igh, aw) sounds
English ( write a story)
Maths ( numbers 1-20) backwards and forward.
Science ( materials) they had to write about different materials.

Cliffdonville · 07/01/2021 21:40

We had:

History - learning about Christopher Columbus PowerPoint and activity sheet
Maths - Number bonds to 20
Literacy - writing a few sentences with nouns
Phonics - Ou and Ow, a video and then had to write a list of words

Had a call from the teacher today which was nice.

Happydaysandhappysmiles · 07/01/2021 21:51

Number bonds to 20 - presentation and work sheets
Reading and answering questions in book (writing full sentences)
Art
Joe wicks
Practice spellings
-aw and -at phonics revision
Purple mash number games

No live teaching at all, decision by school on safeguarding grounds
Call from the teacher today
Fairly new school to us. Would prefer some live input. No work being marked until they return because they like to go through it with each child and praise them

Sandiepatterson · 07/01/2021 21:55

@ilkleymoorbartat

Can I just ask, can all your year 1's write complete descriptive sentences unaided?
Yes. Spelling is not always correct though!
studychick81 · 07/01/2021 22:04

My DD had
Live registration and into to the day lesson
Recorded literacy lesson and sheet to do
Recorded maths lesson with sheet to do
Live review of learning lesson
Pm- recorded science and PSHE lessons with sheet to do.
Live learning review lesson
Phonics sheet to do- we have phonic cards and key words usually sent home anyway.
Live learning review.
Online ebook reading comprehension and online maths games.

Pretty full on day.

studychick81 · 07/01/2021 22:05

Yes she can write an unaided sentence but won't he nice handwriting and might be unreadable

Movedtothedge · 08/01/2021 08:17

@ilkleymoorbartat
mine can’t I don’t think. Feb born, very very reluctant reader and only just getting interested in writing. He will write thank you cards but I have to sound out the letters to all words. He’s simply not interested in trying. School aren’t worried - they think he has the ability, he’s just not bothered yet.

Maths is another story - both his Reception & Y1 teachers are very impressed with his maths and say he possibly has exceptional ability.

Littlecaf · 08/01/2021 15:29

Oy and oi sounds
Adjective sentences
Numberbonds to 20
Read a book
Draw a picture/make a model/ write something etc about what like most about your class
Handwriting y & g (Letter join scheme)

Yesterday includes an all class zoom call which was lovely/sad/funny. I think the teachers are aiming to do one whole class zoom and one small group zoom a week.

Outstanding State Infant School in affluent SE county.

Littlecaf · 08/01/2021 15:32

@ilkleymoorbartat

Yes but that’s only come since October when it clicked

Smellybluecheese · 08/01/2021 16:42

Our daily timetable from school is:

Wake and shake (dancing)
Reading time
Maths - video and sheet to do (today was subtraction)
Live phonics lesson followed with sheet to do and today we also had a wordsearch (today was e_e)
English - video and sheet to do - today was writing a postcard to a penguin to ask it questions, and reading a book to the penguin
LUNCH
PE
Child initiated learning - activities to choose from (today she made a superhero badge)
Live teacher reading story to the children

One form entry village primary in the southeast
The morning is quite full on. Husband and I are taking half a day each for homeschooling and then catching up on work in the evening.

Smellybluecheese · 08/01/2021 16:43

Oh, there is a 15 minute break in between phonics and english!

Smellybluecheese · 08/01/2021 16:44

The live lessons are both very sweet and very sad and they make a big (positive) difference to our experience this time compared to lockdown 1.

Suzi7979 · 08/01/2021 18:04

Today

Maths ( crocodile game, 1-20)
Phonics ( ow)
English ( write a story using adjectives)
Pshe ( money spending)
Topic ( history about the Queen)

Tasks set during live lessons that needs to be submitted within 15 min for each subject.

Mumofsend · 08/01/2021 18:12

@ilkleymoorbartat mine is November born and can't. She is 2+ years behind in her reading and writing though

Coronateachingagain · 08/01/2021 22:13

@ilkleymoorbartat mine can, but spelling is atrocious and also it is hit and miss, if she is having a bad day and is less ready to make an effort, then it is a disaster. She is also early for her year.

FreeButtonBee · 13/01/2021 12:12

my august born is very hit and miss with writing - mostly needs to be cajoled but will occasionally write an abusive/funny sentence out of nowhere (we had fun with joining sentences this week 'daddy is the worst because...' - he wrote his answer all by himself (terrible spelling but phonetically plausible so no negative comments from me!).

bluechameleon · 13/01/2021 12:23

Today my year 1 has:
Maths live lesson then worksheet called 'add by adding ones'. I don't think he was listening during the lesson because he has done the sheet all wrong (I was on a work call) and he is very mathematical so normally knocks the worksheets out in a couple of minutes.
English Live lesson then worksheet to cut words and put in alphabetical order.
Story time (dealing with toddler so don't know what story she read)
This afternoon I think it is RE but I'm not sure. We haven't been given a sheet to download.
Phonics is ai/ay/a_e

APurpleSquirrel · 13/01/2021 20:58

DD has completed a couple of English work sheets; watched a documentary on the Artic, drawn the animals from the documentary & written about them; done a maths equation work sheet & a maths game with DH.

Change45 · 14/01/2021 09:20

No teaching at all for the kids in my child’s school (live videos or recorded).
Today’s tasks:

  • phase 4 phonics games
  • addition and subtraction word problems in maths
  • a comprehension worksheet

We do more but I am starting to wonder if the class teaching is well behind the curriculum for this point in the year. It seems like nothing more than a holding pattern to keep them ticking over. I fear this class will be well behind other schools in the area that have time with their teacher.

Not teacher bashing - I know it’s far from ideal for everyone. But I am worried.
