3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ Support thread 2020 (Mumteacher)

I know it’s a little later than usual but here it is! #letsdothis

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. 🤝

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

@tonyand123 you are right, there are 12 to 15 seats depending on how many kids move from Nursery to Reception. We heard from Habs my daughter did not get called for the 2nd round. Good Luck to you with that too. This whole process is so heart breaking as a small kids is assessed at such a small age and I wonder now whether we as parents are doing the right thing by even applying to these schools...

mumtoone2016 · 15/01/2020 15:27

@dxbmom - I saw the "rejection" email from Habs a couple of hours back and I totally get what you are saying. It is a difficult, long drawn and highly competitive process and am not sure anybody gains much! Thank god for those very few that still give admissions on a non-selective basis..

We have another test due tomorrow, so got to pick ourselves quickly and move forward.

dxbmom · 15/01/2020 15:50

@mumtoone2016 are there any schools that give admission on non selective basis .. I mean independent school ?? Good luck to u for tomorrow. what I feel is a lot goes down to profiling as well. My DD is very active and bright .. but again its never certain what the school is looking in a kid.

mumtoone2016 · 15/01/2020 16:06

@dxbmom - we aren't from North London and were just moving there for schools. But yes, there are some good schools in South London that do give admission on FCFS.. we have one in our backup..

It is indeed a lot about not knowing what they are looking for and it all comes down to also the day - at that age, you can't really tell your child to be 100% prepared for a test day after day after day....

Evening all,Has anyone got the UCS 7+ interview yet?

7plusquestionz · 16/01/2020 22:36

@flyingcutie there is no interview, just waiting for offers now, likely to arrive in the post last weekend of jan.

flyingcutie · 20/01/2020 06:02

My DC's 4+ and 7+ exams and assessments all done! What a work! Regardless of the results, really felt so proud of them being able to perform at this young age.

Now the pressure and worrying are on me, one more week to go!

ekatmeerkat · 20/01/2020 18:30

Anyone heard back from Highgate 3+?

Mummyoftwobeauts1980s · 22/01/2020 09:39

Anyone heard back from NLCS second round for 7+? I know they said 31 Jan but sometimes they let you know early! I know it’s a no, but I’d rather be put out of my misery 😬

tonyand123 · 22/01/2020 10:27

I dont think you ever find out earlier. They normally will post results on the 30th, and email you on the 31st. That is what I believe. So everyone gets them at the same time. This is the same for other 4+ like Habs, St Helens etc...

@Tigermom79 just Habs and NLCS for us at this stage. How about you? Also not holding out much hope for NLCS, the highlight also being the arctic roll (ice cream in winter, woo hoo!!) Confused

All the best to you too! I hate the wait, I’d rather know, whatever the answer! Just discussing with OH what to say to her if she gets two rejections - she’s worked so so hard that I don’t really know how I’ll tell her Sad

Mummyoftwobeauts1980s · 27/01/2020 10:45

@mumteacher hello! just had a quick question re Habs 7+ final round interviews. What kind of thing do they ask? And are the questions directed at the parents or the child? Thank you

flyingcutie · 27/01/2020 13:32

When can we know the result regarding the 7+ from habs boy please?

Mummyoftwobeauts1980s · 27/01/2020 13:53

Habs boys are posting results today so assume you will receive tomorrow?

flyingcutie · 29/01/2020 19:00

Anyone has feedback about habs boy please! DS got 7+ offer surprisingly, but heard it's highly competitive and quite strict.

Cremebrule · 29/01/2020 20:44

Good luck for people still waiting. I’ve been reading some of these threads as preparation as I’m likely to try for 7+ places and they have made for some scary reading. The thing that baffles me though is the fact that the 4 + process especially really seems to favour the autumn borns. Why if the schools are so confident in their ability to teach are they making the process much more likely to churn out September/October kids who might not be as bright, just older than the summer borns? It just doesn’t seem a very fair process really.

Can't comment about Habs but lots of girls in NLCS born in spring/summer. We even had invites to some 4th birthday parties before school started.

RunRunMum · 30/01/2020 11:57

a lot of the kids in habs reception are also spring summer born too they are an even spread

Cremebrule · 30/01/2020 12:45

Well that seems better then. Some of the older threads seem to suggest you’ve got no chance with a summer born.

tonyand123 · 31/01/2020 08:23

Anyone got 4+ results this morning yet?

flyingcutie · 31/01/2020 09:07

Yes, channing just sent their offer out through email! Good luck everyone!
