or do they not really do much sport do you think?
I mean that is GROSS is it not?

I was told this when I questioned why they said you only need one set of PE clothes

DSs school does the same CD. Yucky but think its so children dont forget to bring PE kit to school.

scorpio1 · 18/07/2007 13:59

ours come home every friday, back on monday. ds has pe at least 3 times a week...eww!

fannyannie · 18/07/2007 14:00

DS1's primary school does this too - he has PE twice a week.

RavenclAwen · 18/07/2007 14:02

hadnt really bothered my before. It doesnt seem overly smelly when it comes home.

I must just be slovernly

bozza · 18/07/2007 14:02

DS has done this for last two years. Doesn't bother me tbh.

RavenclAwen · 18/07/2007 14:02

oh and pe 3x a week

ShrinkingVenomousTentacular · 18/07/2007 14:02

most of the PE lesson will be taken up with getting changed, waiting til everyone has found their plimsolls, trooping to the hall, standing waiting till everyone is quiet and paying attention, trooping back to the classroom, getting changed back, fighting over stray socks and so on. IME.
Actually they don't do very much which involves getting sweaty/muddy, and the kit is only on for about 30 minutes twice a week (if you're lucky) so it probably won't need washing more often than once every five or six weeks.

Our school recommends this but I often used to nip into the cloakroom whilst they were in reception and retrieve it for a quick wash. It's not particularly dirty, just screwed up in a ball, very creased and stinking of rubber plimsols, usually someone elses rubber plimsols

mankyscotslass · 18/07/2007 14:05

ds is the same, once a week for pe, and tyhat cancelled for special assemblies and events.....

WigWamBam · 18/07/2007 14:07

Dd has PE three times a week and is meant to keep her kit at school during term times. I don't like the idea, so I get her to bring it home every so often for a wash - their kit is kept on their coatpeg so it's easy enough for her to pick up on her way out.

It's never terribly dirty but she screws it up when she puts it back in her bag, so it's nice to freshen it up a bit.

foxinsocks · 18/07/2007 14:08

they do that at ours too

honestly cd, all they seem to do is music and movement (i.e. prancing about pretending to be clouds or trees)...

I'm not sure mine ever break out into a sweat doing PE!

CountessDracula · 18/07/2007 14:09

pe once a week??

blimey that is terrible
Do they do other sporting stuff?

I would say that's okay in ks1 but when the hormones start kicking in in ks2, some more ealrier than others, they do need to be washed every week!

Some of the children I have taught have had strong B.O. and this isn't nice for anyone to be around, no matter the age.

TenaLady · 18/07/2007 14:11

My ds only has PE once a week, well below the expectation. We take it in on day of PE and bring it home to wash on the same day too.

mankyscotslass · 18/07/2007 14:12

No not really, they only got marked "good" on their offsted for opportunities for physical excercise. Everything else was outstanding. They are hoping to address it in the new term. They do get to play out at lunch if dry though!

foxinsocks · 18/07/2007 14:12

it changes in KS2 here - then they have proper outdoor games kit and indoor stuff (and have to look after their own kit!)

I think in ks1 they do music and movement, stuff in the gym and outdoor apparatus (whatever that is!). Friend of mine who helps in reception says it virtually takes up a whole afternoon getting them changed in and out of their kit, especially in winter when all the girls have tights!

ChudleyMintonCanons · 18/07/2007 14:14

PE 3 x week here, and bag home at half-term. Honestly, it's fine, in reception anyway. Don't know what happens further up the cschool when they do proper outdoor games tho'.

Fimbo · 18/07/2007 14:14

When dd started reception, they didn't even do p.e. for the first term. The teachers seem to think some of them wouldn't be able to handle get undressed then dressed again.

My dd is 9 now and has p.e. twice a week, still the t-shirts and shorts are rolled into a ball in the p.e. bag. She brings it home on a Friday and takes it back on a Monday.

bozza · 18/07/2007 14:15

DS has PE twice a week. I would imagine he gets far more physical exercise at playtime/dinnertime. He also gets exercised on the rec opposite school by his childminder.

islandofsodor · 18/07/2007 16:10

Dd is in pre-prep, they do PE once a week, plus swimming once a week with extra when it comes around to sports day etc. I thought it was pretty standard to wash every half term. hers comes home spotless so sometimes I only wash once a term.

wheresthehamster · 18/07/2007 17:01

You've just reminded me. I keep a couple of spare PE kits in the classroom for children who forget to bring their own in. They get worn regularly - MUST bring them home to wash, it's now the end of the year

Ours do pe twice a week, but only for about 20 min if that, and sometimes if they are in a rush they stay in their uniform.

I wash it termly and before it will be on show for anything ie sports day, assembly of whatever LOL.

WendyWeber · 18/07/2007 17:05

Every half sounds very hygienic to me!
