My son can write his name!

Just wanted to share as I'm so proud of him. He's 5, in year 1 and has global development delay. He has cheerfully watched and clapped as his friends get certificates in assembly for learning their set 1, 2, 3 etc words while he has tried for nearly a year and a term to read and write the set 1 words. It must be so frustrating for him to see the other children learning everything so much faster than him but he never complains and he loves school. He has been developing at about half the average speed since birth (so he had the skills of a 6 month old at 12 months etc) so I wasn't expecting him to be able to write his name for another year or 2 yet, I'm really impressed.

danni0509 · 27/11/2018 19:08

Oh bless him that's so lovely to read Smile well done to your ds!!

My ds is 5 (asd & development delay) sounds quite similar, as like you said always about half the age behind. Is that still appropriate now? My ds is more like a 2-2.5 yr old.

Does your son have extra support in school like an ehcp or anything similar etc?

Have you managed to get your ds toilet trained?
