My son can write his name!

Just wanted to share as I'm so proud of him. He's 5, in year 1 and has global development delay. He has cheerfully watched and clapped as his friends get certificates in assembly for learning their set 1, 2, 3 etc words while he has tried for nearly a year and a term to read and write the set 1 words. It must be so frustrating for him to see the other children learning everything so much faster than him but he never complains and he loves school. He has been developing at about half the average speed since birth (so he had the skills of a 6 month old at 12 months etc) so I wasn't expecting him to be able to write his name for another year or 2 yet, I'm really impressed.

I work in a Primary school and I get really proud when any of my pupils achieve milestones. I often feel quite emotional about it and have had to blink back tears in assembly.Thank you for sharing. I think that it is fantastic. You must be so proud.🤗

Well done! A little tear for his happiness for his friends achievements too - he sounds amazing

All teary reading that OP: congratulations & well done to him and you, for supporting him. You are clearly a wonderful parent and he sounds like a darling child.

Thankyou all, he really is a lovely boy.

@danni0509 he doesn't have an ehcp but he has some funding, I think it's called sen+ funding. The school have put it with some other childrens funding and used it for an extra part time ta for his class who mainly helps ds and about 2 or 3 other children. He was 5 in June and his development is very similar to my niece who is 2 years 10 months although there are some things he is ahead of her and some things she is ahead of him. Toilet training is a bit hit and miss and has been a very slow process. He has been in pants since Easter this year and he does really well at school because he enjoys having a wander down the corridor to the toilets, having a bit of a nose at what the children in the other classes are up to etc. At home he has an accident every other day or so.
