We've been practicing for the 11 plus verbal reasoning test. Bought gl assessment verbal reasoning explained book to help prepare for it.

One question is... If the code for LANCE is ODQFH. What does ILQ mean?

I'm pretty sure the answer in the back is wrong and what my son out is right. ..so just wondering what everyone here would put as the answer. I'll say what bog answers are after a few guesses.

ILQ is the code though, so you'd have to go back not forwards. Hence FIN.

Yes, so it each letter goes on three, to work out a word from it’s code you have to go BACK 3,surely? So FIN

I actually think my first post is wrong...ds is wrong and answer page isn't a typo lol duh. All the other questions asked to find the code for a word....this one gave the code and had to find the original word.. so think we had to work backwards on this one.

It's confused me and they expect 10 yr olds to answer it lol

Each letter goes up 3 places in the alphabet yes, from the word letter, to the code letter, so if we have the code, we work back to the letter, so FIN not LOT

I would read that as saying the code is ILQ so we need to count letters back from that which gives FIN.

Posters saying LOT are reading it as if ILQ is the real word to be put into code.
