Hello, this thread is a little old now and some of the links are out of date. Take a look at this handy page for a round up of the best backpacks, chosen by Mumsnetters.

Oh crap, I misunderstood your OP too! Think DD's satchel is a bit young for yr 4/5/6...

SanFranBear · 23/08/2017 16:32

Never heard of Smiggle - Googled and are my DD's idea of hell. She has revolted against all things pink the last 6 months so have gone with this emoji one:

Large pink adidas thing

wildbhoysmama · 23/08/2017 19:02

leccybill and snowiestmountain I'm laughing at how excited you both were about the Adidas Flowery bags! Smile
Of course you can have one in your 30s, hell your 70s if you want one!
Only warning is, I work in a secondary school and they've turned out to be very popular, so you'll either up your cool factor, or have teens hating you for giving their new bags uncool mum vibes! Lol.

leccybill · 23/08/2017 19:08

wildbhoy I work in a high school too - don't know who'd be more embarrassed, them or me!

wildbhoysmama · 23/08/2017 19:24

Ha, that's just perfect leccybill! Similarly, a few years back these fitted, puffa jackets in mustard/ khaki were all the rage, they'd become popular so quickly, in fact, that my head teacher ( and friend as it happens) hadn't had time to clock that all the teens were wearing her lovely, new jacket! She couldn't even wear it at the weekend as her teen son said she was ' sooooo embarrassing, trying to be young again' Ha!
If I were you I'd rock up with one and just say ' oh I've had mine since last term!' and swagger past.

My DS has one of those Galaxy print ones. He's starting y6. The younger kids use bookbags.

NancyDonahue · 23/08/2017 19:53

Can someone post a link for the adidas bags?

Hi there,

We've moved this thread over to Primary Education now as it wasn't really an AIBU.

Many thanks

megletthesecond · 23/08/2017 22:23

8yr old DD is on her third rucksack already. She's done disney, owl.print and now she has a hot tuna one from sports direct.

Apparently she is going to use birthday money to buy a new one from smiggle.

The one DD has (slightly different to the one I linked to) is pretty waterproof - more than shower proof at least. But I've only ever seen them in France, which is where we picked it up. We have family there so visit regularly and hit the hypermarkets as required!

wildbhoysmama · 24/08/2017 16:13

miaow the cat brilliant!

leccybill · 24/08/2017 18:40

Just picked up this one in Asda and when I got to the checkout, it was only £4. DD is chuffed with it. GrinGrinGrin

We just bought new rucksack for my ds in one of mountain gear shop.
He loves it because there are so many pockets, and one compartment for keeping his letters/homework without being mashed up.
All those brand name ones are good(and he had one before), but not practical enough according to my ds. He chose very basic looking one this time.

neversleepagain · 24/08/2017 21:10

My 5 year olds have these Cath Kidston ones.

My DD got her decision down to 2 from Smiggle. I encouraged her away from the furry one, not realising that the alternative was more £££, oops! However it was a good decision. It's definitely not too big, but it does usually hold the necessary extra things like recorders, music, thick books and, most importantly her foolscap homework folder. IME some of the smaller backpacks look big enough but then struggle to fit A4+ sized stuff that pupils cart around these days.
