Primary School Applications - when do we hear?

Does anyone know when it is we hear back about which school they are going to (those starting reception 2007)? Or is it different for different parts of the country?

I thought it was early March, friend says April, so now we're both unsure!!

We had to prove address (utility bill, letter from Child Benefits showing parental responsibilty, Council Tax bill).

They've always done "as the crow flies" here. I am cross because they measure from the front door, when actually the school site has an equally well-used access from the playground - think they should measure from the site perimeter nearest to the applicant's house.

It's 14th March and we have to confirm acceptance by 28th March. I'm feeling nervous about it, even though we're well within catchment. I keep thinking what if I didn't fill in the form properly or something like that. The thing is it's a really popular school and people move to the area to be able to go there. We moved her pre-dd and schools weren't even a consideration then, so we struck lucky. They had enough places for all catchment children 2 years ago but last year 3 had to go elsewhere.

The Surrey Letters (well the Woking ones anyway) have been delayed due to a computer failure at the LEA. I think they are being sent the 9th of March.

Do you count as Christchurch or somewhere Surfer (you're probably going to tell me you are poole now... dunno why I'm thinking Christchurch!)? Mum asked at work in the end and got told our letters go out first class on Friday, aiming to be with us by Saturday morning.

She'd better get in there... I hate the other school

16th march here, and rumours are rife.

from one source two of the local schools are taking 60 children instead of 30, which although it was published in a local news magazine type thing by one of the local councillors has been denied by the LEA, and the other rumour is that 60 children in our area have not been offered a school place.

Surrey mums, our school office said today that the letters should be going out friday, to arrive saturday (i also got a big wink from the secretary as she waved the list around, so i'm assuming DS2's name is on it)

The Surrey website has been updated today to say if you haven't heard by Tues 13 March to get in touch with them (up until today it said you should hear by 9 March). It's getting later and later

Surrey seems to be a bit of a balls up, we were told delayed to 9th then ours arrived last Saturday, but none of the other schools round here have theirs. I know 3 who haven't got in and don't yet know what they are being offered as an alternative.

We found out at the end of January. Though wasn't too concerned cos we live 3 minutes down the hill from our village school.

I will keep my fingers crossed that B gets into the school you want, Flame.

I'm in Hampshire and we found out at end of Jan. Didn't get either of two preferences .

lilybubble, I'm in Hants too! Poor you not getting into your first 2 preferences! Which part of Hants are you because not all of Hants found ot in Jan, most were on Friday!

I'm in Winchester, not too far away. I thought it odd that different parts of the county had different dates. Have a few friends in Southampton, and know thay got theirs on Friday! Think Basingstoke did too.

I have been told letters were posted yesterday, so if you have not had yours by Monday to ring the council...

Whereabouts in Surrey are you - I have heard different things for different areas of Surrey...
