DS (7yo) is doing a project at school on the telephone.
He has been taught that John logie Baird invented the telephone.
I was always under the impression that the telephone was invented by Alexander graham bell, and logie Baird invented TV.
I'm prepared to be told that I'm wrong, if that's the case.
Am I correct in thinking this? And if so should I speak to the teacher about it?

So strange teacher would get this wrong especially as it can be easily found online. Are you sure it's not your son who confused the two?

It seems such an obvious thing for a teacher to have got wrong, especially on worksheets for homework... but if they have, that's worrying!

but if they have, that's worrying! not particluarly worrying, people make mistakes you know. Someone has made a minor error, either teacher, or DS or whoever passed information on to the teacher. ( she may not have written the SOW herself)

By all means ask for it to be corrected, but its no big deal.

I would cross out the incorrect name in red pen, and write the correct name above. The teacher will see it, probably double check and . Keep an eye (and ear) out for any other mistakes.

But surely they are separate questions? Just because the first question asks for a picture of a telephone doesn't mean the second question must also be about its inventor - unless, I guess, the homework sheet specifically says "Telephone Homework" or similar.

I wouldn't cross it out in red pen personally. It will make you look like you're trying to do the teacher's job. I'd simply make fact number one on my list of five facts "he invented the television". After all, that will be answering the question that has been asked - not the question you think should have been asked.

Fun fact for your ds, Bell originally suggested 'ahoy' be used as the greeting when answering a phone, but 'hello' proved to be more popular

Therefore the activity and question may not be directly related?

Sounds like it was probably a mistake made by the teacher, but perhaps an interesting starting point for a discussion about how history often overlooks true pioneers. (And why this is the case!)

Sweets my grandmother has just said something similar in that she thinks that bell got the credit but it was someone else's idea (possibly JLB?)
I will ask the teacher in person rather than leaving a note in the homework diary, where it may be perceived differently.
In any case my she needs to know as if she has it wrong she can correct it, if DS has picked her up wrong then maybe she needs to check understanding a bit more clearly.
As tempting as red pen would be I wouldn't want to destroy a decent parent/teacher relationship by doing something like that.

Please don't "go to the school" - slip a note in for the teacher, unless you really want to shame her in front of other members of staff. But you've every right to correct the mistake.

At no point did I insinuate that either. I think it's an interesting topic and would like to clarify what's being taught?
Wether or not my DS has picked it up wrong, or misunderstood in some way? Or if indeed the teacher has made a mistake, which can happen, we are all human after all!

What I do intend is to have a private conversation with his class teacher (not overheard by other members of staff or other pupils. I don't want to embarrass her, or myself for that matter!
I consider the school to be a great school, and I would like to think I have a good relationship with the staff and intend to maintain that relationship.

So to answer your question...no I'm not bonkers!
Nor does it merit a "visit to the school" I will simply bring it up during the time I'm at the school anyway for drop offs or pick ups, this does happen twice a day so not going out of my day to "visit"
