Some LEA's have catchment areas, most do not.

Schools can set their own admission criteria. I think that they have to have children in care as first, then SEN, then most have siblings as the next.

At this point faith, feeder schools, and catchment areas (where they exist) can come into play.

We got our 2nd choice which we're happy with as its our closest and had changed our minds after submitting and wanted it as first choice!!

thinkfast · 18/04/2016 18:35

Happy with result. Feeling relieved Grin

Same here Chilver! Congrats!

You too laughing - funny how we get so stressed and yet, my DD is completely oblivious!! Just told her where she'll be going and she is delighted as she'll be able to scoot or cycle there (with us obviously Grin)

Thanks Tiggy and Random, I thought my toddler is guaranteed a place where her elder sister is in and we havent moved. We'd better have a back up plan!

chocomochi · 18/04/2016 19:30

Chilver - how lovely! I bet she'll make lots of really local friends too which is always nice. We would have to get a bus to our first choice (or walk up an extremely long, steep hill) so logistically it would have been a headache (especially as DS2 is due in June!). Very pleased with the way it all turned out.

Chilver · 18/04/2016 20:29

laughing - actually the reason we put another school as first choice is because we already have a strong local network who all go to this other school and none to the school we've been given. However, we will make yet more lovely local friends as you say (and we actually prefer the school we've been given but can't say that too loudly amongst our existing friends!! Wink)

Glad yours has worked out - you're going to have a busy year!

snowgirl1 · 18/04/2016 20:49

We got our first choice, pleasant surprise!

First choice here (London), it was a bit of a long shot so I'm very fortunate
