When does new uniform season start?

DD1 is going to YR this september.

Assuming I should be getting summer dresses for the start of autumn term, I'm looking at this one in yellow

www.marksandspencer.com/pleated-dress/p/p22291619

There are hardly any sizes still in stock. Only the really tiny and the really large. (I assume the older girls don't want gingham dresses). This is the only one in zip in M&S. I could get the button up ones still. Debenham still has DD1 size with zip but low stock.

Question is. Should I get them now before they run out for good? Or has the new season hasn't come in yet?

Surely they can't be wearing pinafore and long sleeved shirts in Sept? I'm feeling so hot at the moment.

Don't worry! There will be plenty inAugust before the start of the new school year.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 01/07/2015 15:09

And there are other places than M&S Grin

HeadDreamer · 01/07/2015 15:10

Thanks. I'll sit tight and wait then. You can tell I'm getting a bit panicky. I just couldn't believe everyone is so organised and snatched up everything already. /sigh of relief

think so far I've only found debenhams and matalan selling yellow gingham dresses. Matalan has sold out. Debenhams is low stock. It's so annoying the school picks a non-supermarket colour. I saw the gingham dresses going for £4 at sainsbury, and they are £10 in M&S. Angry

Sainsburys and asda do yellow but in less quantities so they sell out. £4 ish
I think Tesco do too - would need to check ours. People buy summer dresses at Easter for summer term. At our school 90 percent start Sepe in their polo shirts and skirts / shorts / culottes

redskybynight · 01/07/2015 15:57

Agree with PP, I really wouldn't bother with a summer dress if your DD is just starting Reception . Most likely there won't be enough hot days to warrant it, she will have grown out of it by next year, and polo shirt and skirt is pretty much as cool to wear.

HeadDreamer · 01/07/2015 16:02

I got the feeling it would be too cold for summer dresses but it's hard to imagine anything else in this heat!

It was hot for first 3 weeks last year but the only ones in reception (5/90?) in summer dresses were those who had them from school nursery summer term, that still fit. None of the new children did. Do order yellow ones just before Easter tho to get a choice

HeadDreamer · 01/07/2015 16:17

But doesn't it mean I need to get short sleeve polos? Or the long sleeved ones will do for sept?

Mopmay · 01/07/2015 16:21

I've never seen any child in long sleeved. Classrooms are boiling and ours wear jumper / cardi over polo

HeadDreamer · 01/07/2015 16:24

mopmay interesting. I have never seen the local school children without their cardis. I didn't realise they wear short sleeved polos underneath. I just assumed they aren't in the shops yet as its summer. (Hence me looking at gingham dresses). I will go and get some short sleeve polos then from sainsbury. I have already got the pinafore when I see them in stock. I hate how you can't order online for sainsbury!

I have seen white / blue in shops I think but ours are yellow and never seen anyone sell them. Some wear logo stuff, some supermarket. Sainsburys do 25% off sales - poss in August?

Our gingham dress is yellow but luckily the polo is white. I have seen sainsbury still has them.

Two of the girls went to the settling in session this week in new gingham dresses. There isn't a school nursery attached to the school. This set off my mission to buy uniforms! I wonder if they plan to buy new ones in Easter or they are as clueless as me?

£150? Is that a typo or an independent?

OP posts:
Muskey · 01/07/2015 17:53

Yes for PE kit. Yes independent school and just to make you spend extra money they have a different uniform for the senior school and the junior school. Dd going up to year 7 so hence had to buy the whole lot again

Mopmay · 01/07/2015 20:29

I have never heard of children wearing uniform for settling in sessions anywhere !

Barbeasty · 01/07/2015 21:00

They could have older siblings and have really wanted to be like them and wear their old uniform. Most of the girls in summer dresses last September at our school had older sisters so they already had their old summer uniform.

Supervet · 01/07/2015 21:04

usually short sleeve polo and cardi over top. Schools have an obsession for heating on full and Windows wide open all year round Hmm

LibrariesGaveUsPower · 01/07/2015 21:05

Our yr kids only have summer dresses in September if they are hand me downs.Smile Everyone else wears skirt, short sleeved polo and socks.

Asda and Sainsbury definitely do yellow. Stock will depend how many local schools use yellow. They do check. Grin

Emochild · 01/07/2015 21:45

Ours aren't allowed to wear summer uniform in September -might be worth checking with the school what their policy is

Heels99 · 01/07/2015 21:51

Ours can wear summer dressall year and normall wear summer dress in september
