How much are logo polos at your school?

Just curious really. Ours are £7.50 which are expensive compared to supermarket ones, however they have lasted ok - a bit stained and bobbled now after almost a full year. They have a much nicer fit than the Tesco ones I bought. I also found the Tesco ones quite hard and stiff at the collar after washing (but then I don't use fabric softener due to sensitive skin). So all in all I'm happier with the quality of the logo ones but just think they are a bit expensive for what they are.

Last year I bought 2 as DD initially had a preference for shirt and tie. She's now wanting poloshirts every day so I think I will need 4 for next year but that's £30 Hmm. I would ideally get 5 but I think we could get by on 4.

I know this may seem early but I'm in Scotland and school finishes up in 6 weeks and the uniform order forms will be out the week after next so it's on my mind at the moment!

So yeah, how much do yours cost and do you think they are worth the money?

Also any good recommendations for non branded polos that don't shrink, stay soft, and aren't short and wide fit (ie I want long and narrow fit)?

Around £8 I think, wash well.

But tbh where possible I get them for £1 from the PTA second hand sales.
I also don't buy as many. imo pre-pubescent kids don't need clean shirt every day.

PerspicaciaTick · 11/05/2015 13:13

Our school uses Tesco School Uniform Embroidery service and logo polo shirts are £3.75 each and logo jumpers are £6.50.

The school gets a donation from Tesco for every order.

MissOutstanding · 11/05/2015 13:16

I find that Asda polos are relatively long and narrow. The collar does seem a little bit hard, but nowhere near the cardboard collar on M&S polos.

MrsHathaway · 11/05/2015 13:18

School's are narrow and long. 8.50.

We like Nutmeg at Morrisons.

bigkidsdidit · 11/05/2015 13:18

£8. My ds1 starts this year, I've just ordered 5. He is an extremely messy child!

dottyaboutstripes · 11/05/2015 13:22

They are £8. They bobble and are itchy. My kids hardly ever wear them as they prefer the Tesco ones I got for free from being a MN tester (lucky break!)
The best polo shirts I've bought were from BHS but would also recommend Sainsburys

redskybynight · 11/05/2015 13:30

£8 - but I get 2 full years (or even more) wear out of them as opposed to less than a year for the supermarket ones. And they hold their shape better. I don't think I've spent more overall then I would have done on supermarket ones (based on DC in Year 6, 4 years of logoed polos).

ouryve · 11/05/2015 13:33

£6.25, according to the price list on the website. The logos aren't compulsory, though.

ouryve · 11/05/2015 13:38

Next are quite slim fitting, btw and have a high cotton content so a bit less sweaty in summer. The poly cotton ones from Sainsburys are great in winter, but I've noticed that DS2 gets a bit itchy in them, in the summer.

NotMrsTumble · 11/05/2015 13:42

£10 each. I do get a couple of years or of them and can even hand down dds to ds1, but I do buy 5, (cba to wash them mid week) and they only get worn Easter to September before winter uniform (shirt and tie) is required.

WipsGlitter · 11/05/2015 13:48

I'm not sure but I have got three years out of them so far!! And probably a fourth!

NotCitrus · 11/05/2015 13:50

7

Baddz · 11/05/2015 13:52

£9 each
Best ones are from sainsburys.
I buy them when they are 25% off

NotCitrus · 11/05/2015 13:53

£7.50. Could have got them for 4 in Asda apparently, but that would have been a couple hours travel and bus/train cost.
I got 3 and they've lasted well through YR and Y1 and will be handed down. The Asda ones have faded much more.

meglet · 11/05/2015 13:54

About £8 I think.

Much better quality than the supermarket polo's.

NoParking · 11/05/2015 13:54

50p at the second hand sale, and come up huge (Y2 dd is just out of the 3/4 ones and still rather drowned by the 5/6 ones). They fade a bit and get very soft, but they are fine imo. But then, I don't iron and I'm not fussed about things looking new.

Mopmay · 11/05/2015 14:00

Two different suppliers so 6.95 or 7.95. The more expensive ones wash better and don't bobble. The cheaper are trutex brand and bobble after few months. Tesco are much higher cotton content so we find they are nice and cheap at £2 but fade and are harder. John Lewis ones are lovely and thick and sturdy: £3.50 a piece?

MovingToAlnwick · 11/05/2015 14:07

Polo shirts are compulsory and are £8. Jumpers are £9. The smallest size is nearly down to DDs knees so she will be wearing them for at least another year. Grin

Getdownfromtherethisinstant · 11/05/2015 14:08

Ours are £7 or three for £20 I think from the uniform shop. People do complain they're expensive but I doubt DS gets anything like as much wear out of any other top he owns!

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 11/05/2015 14:12

£11 here! (just a bog standard state school too) AND they only wear them half the year (shirts and ties in the winter) and they don't wash especially well either - I think they have gone short and wide looking. They aren't allowed to wear plain ones either.

The younger two wear M&S cotton polos. They do the job fine.

Pumpkinette · 11/05/2015 17:06

It seems the average is around £8 so we are 50p cheaper than most. (£11 LikeASoulWithoutAMind - ouch) I've had a look and the brand they use is Russell. As I said I'm fairly happy with the quality of them in comparison to the plain ones but I might get 5 as they will look better for longer if I have more of them on rotation. They are looking a bit tatty now but they get washed 2/3 times a week so I would expect that after almost 9 months.

Our school don't do a second hand uniform sale. I might mention it to the school actually as they do a summer fayre on the second last week with stalls and stuff so I'm sure people would donate out grown uniform to be sold.

Ours are £9 each Shock so I usually buy a couple of logo ones every year to add to the old ones (if they're not outgrown obv) then buy a few from here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250812853225?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=550030134753&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The exact same polos just without the logo for half the price Hmm

Essexmum69 · 11/05/2015 18:15

£3.75 for embroidered Polo shirts. £3 for T-shirt.

Pumpkinette · 11/05/2015 18:30

How can some schools do them for £3.75 but others charge £11.50? It can't cost that much for embroidery.

We actually got or order forms home this afternoon. They are saying it's a special reduced price of £7.50 when you order through the school so I checked on the school supplier website and they are selling them for £6.60. Hmm I think I will be giving the shop a call through the week to make sure the website price is correct.
