DD10 has a sheet of Fours to complete. She needs to find the link to Four in every item on the list.
We have most of them (e.g. April: 4th month etc) but are struggling with the following:
slang for a blow with the fist
the Press
'notice' of a Sherlock Holmes story

Can you help?
Thanks :-)

  3. Sign of Four
VivaLeBeaver · 04/05/2015 11:04

The sign of the four is a Sherlock holmes story.

gallicgirl · 04/05/2015 11:06

A blow with fist is usually known as a bunch of fives so not sure how link with 4 works.

momb · 04/05/2015 11:08

i think a "hand" is an approximate measurement of four inches in hosre speak.

momb · 04/05/2015 11:27

Any further thoughts on slang for a blow with a fist?
Thanks for all help so far!

The fist thing is bugging me.

Have found this website here with loads of words but nothing jumps out as being to do with four?

TheoriginalLEM · 04/05/2015 11:36

bunch of fives

Lonecatwithkitten · 04/05/2015 11:42

LEM is right in measuring horses 1 hand is 4 inches.

momb · 04/05/2015 11:46

I agree that a hand is 4 inches but not sure how this fits with the clue?

momb · 04/05/2015 11:47

We got bunch of fives too! Nothing with four though!
Frustrating!

I was wondering about an awful pun on 'fought' (but that's not slang)

SoupDragon · 04/05/2015 11:55

The only thing I can think of is whether "knuckle sandwich" could be four knuckle sandwich. I've never heard of it and neigh has Google though.

tomatodizzymum · 04/05/2015 11:58

could it be slang for brass knuckles, a four finger ring.

SandStorm · 04/05/2015 12:02

There are four primary punches in boxing: the jab, cross, hook, and uppercut.

(from wiki - not my own knowledge!)

SandStorm · 04/05/2015 12:04

not slang though so probably doesn't help you

beresh · 04/05/2015 12:53

fourpenny
/?f??p?n?/

momb · 04/05/2015 13:04

SoupDragon · 04/05/2015 13:19

Me neither!

Leeds2 · 04/05/2015 15:36

I think that is quite difficult homework for Year 5!

GrouchyKiwi · 04/05/2015 15:39

But kind of fun.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/05/2015 15:39

I think the teacher has been playing with Sporcle.
