DD10 has a sheet of Fours to complete. She needs to find the link to Four in every item on the list.
We have most of them (e.g. April: 4th month etc) but are struggling with the following:
slang for a blow with the fist
the Press
'notice' of a Sherlock Holmes story

Can you help?
Thanks :-)

My mum always used to joke that she'd give us a "fourpenny one" if we didn't behave as kids

It was (sort of) fun, but family quiz/google type fun, and seemed a bit mean to give to a 10 year old with confidence issues such that she could not have handed it in partially completed. Only about ten of the 25 clues were possible for her to complete unaided.
We try to leave her to it rather than giving too much help but most were beyond a simple dictionary or google, you had to at least have an idea what you were looking for.
Examples:
Blood, phlegm etc
Beginning a rubber
earth, fire etc
diamonds, hearts etc
Summer, Autumn
United Kingdom
a sporting boundary
quadrilateral (several other quadr words so she could look these up herself)

So most weren't impossible, just difficult if you had never heard of the four humors or the classical elements for example; and indeed if we hadn't given her hints (and MN gave us some answers) she would not have completed it. I do think that is a little unfair for Y5 work. Further it was set as part of her maths homework, while having no bearing on maths at all.
