Hello - anyone else found themselves on the 7+ reserve list for Colet Court? Happy to share the pain of waiting with a bigger group...!

Hi wineatalltimes

We are on waiting list for CC 7+.
Biting my nails and hoping DS gets in a place.
DH is disappointed as CC was his first choice for DS.
Haven't had the heart to tell anything to DS yet.

Any idea how big is the reserve list.
Also having read about schools over-offering, I am really tense.

Kuti999 · 02/02/2015 09:43

Hi! We're also on the reserve list for CC 7+ and so disappointed as it really is our first choice!

I don't expect we will hear anything before the deadline on Thursday... URGH!

Any advice on how to make this long wait less painful? Maybe a glass or two of wine might help to relax... Wine

Wineatalltimes · 02/02/2015 10:35

Thanks for the support. Biting my nails too. Don't expect to hear anything until Friday (our older one was on the reserve list two years ago and we didn't hear until the Friday...) Good luck to both of you. Wine all around I think.

Hello! my first post since I always read the posts anonymously. But in this specific case I think I owe this post to all out there.

We are on CC and WUS reserve lists. Does your CC letter also say "should certainly be able to let you know on 6th?".. standard wording? Or shoudl we read into it?

Thanks!

Kuti999 · 02/02/2015 13:13

we have same wording and it's standard I'm afraid...

salutemetfelicitatem · 02/02/2015 13:22

Thanks Kuti999

We have a friend who got into all 3 KCJS, WUS and CC and not decided yet! So there might be an happy ending for 2 people out there!

Wineatalltimes · 02/02/2015 19:24

And we have people at our school with all three (KCJS, CC and WUS) and two (CC and KCJS), who are still deciding. The more multiple offers the better!

Wow Wineatalltimes - what prep school is your DS currently in? Sounds like they prepared the boys extremely well!
We're in a prep that takes the boys/girls up to 11 so unfortunately we received no help/support in preparing our DS for the 7+...

TennisMom · 03/02/2015 11:46

I've been helping a family with the 7+ exam and they have offers from WUS and CC as well so there is hope for those on the reserve lists!

Good luck everyone and please keep us posted on the outcome on Thursday.

Wineatalltimes · 03/02/2015 18:36

Not that I want to be the bearer of bad news, but someone just pointed out today's comments on the CC 8+ thread (all those interviewed may be on the reserve list):

Wonder if they've done the same for the 7+ list...

Dont worry. There will be movement. We hv gone for wus over cc and kcs, so definitely 1 place is coming up available

shoutymcshoutsmum · 04/02/2015 07:21

Two questions for anyone who has the patience to answer:

  1. The CC deadline is noon tomorrow. Is there a noon deadline for KCJS and WUS as well?
  1. Does anyone know how many are on the KCJS 7+ waiting list?

Time has started slowing down...

Des1234 · 04/02/2015 07:35

I don't think all those interviewed were put on the wait list as we have some boys who were interviewed but not on the list. However the list is quite long I heard.

DadToAson · 04/02/2015 12:24

The thread mom means it as her sons place must be way down. However its 8+. It wounds true if you read it. Does anyone know the deadline for KCJS and WUS deadline to inform. Please share.

shoutymcshoutsmum · 04/02/2015 17:29

noon tomorrow allegedly.

amyfowler · 04/02/2015 21:27

For kcjs it's noon tomorrow

Des1234 · 05/02/2015 08:28

Has anyone heard from CC yet?

campaignsandgrey · 05/02/2015 09:32

What do you guys think about boys being on the reserve list at KCJS and being turned down at CC? I noticed that boys may hold offers from CC and WUS but a boy with a firm offer from KCJS won't necessarily get an offer from CC (having sat both exams)? I thought that these three schools - WUS, CC and KCJS all have more or less the same standard and criteria that they require for entry?

anothermum100 · 05/02/2015 10:35

At 7+ Colet accepts 36-38 boys while KCJS accepts approx. 56. Therefore more boys will receive offers from KCJS at this point, possibly giving an impression that KCJS is easier to 'get into' at this point. Which obviously it is in that there are more places. At 8+ Colet accepts another 36-38 boys, while KCJS only accepts about 10. Therefore more boys will receive more 8+ offers from Colet than from KCJS, which would then give the impression that, at 8+, Colet is easier to get into than KCJS. Which, again, obviously it is because there are more places there then.

firsttimer08 · 05/02/2015 10:38

I have heard at least between CC and WUS - that the latter is more focused on English and former places more emphasis on Math. Not quite sure where KCJS fits in the spectrum, but I'd be interested to know too.

amyfowler · 05/02/2015 11:14

I don't know about WUS but I think with kcjs has a long drawn process with a different strategy of interviews and activity morning for all applicants. So they have a wider set of data available doing interviews and activity morning ka for all applicants as oppose to CC. I am assuming that would mean that a greater emphasis is placed on these other factors as well as a great performance in written test. I thought CC had slightly harder level at written test but given sheer number of applicants versus available places it comes down to a really close call on written performance. I would think that it's considerably harder to get I to CC because of less number if places/more applicants and the greater emphasis on written test.

anothermum100 · 05/02/2015 11:15

I believe that KCJS favours all rounders, with perhaps less emphasis on Maths than CC.
A further point about candidates and schools: this year I have heard of a few boys who got interviews at CC and were placed on their reserve list but did not get either offer or reserve list place from KCJS.

salutemetfelicitatem · 05/02/2015 11:16

My impression is KCJS is more of an allrounder. If we lived in SW I would choose KCJS over CC and WUS - it looks like a happy school to me. But as I notice in the posts all are favoring CC over KCJS.
I agree for KCJS 7+ is the easiest entry. But then for 8+ exam dates for CC and WUS were same this year! So there can not be overlaps.

salutemetfelicitatem · 05/02/2015 11:44

Our messages crossed but we all seem to agree :) I also feel like summer borns have a better chance with KCJS. CC's emphasis on maths is well known and this will skew the whole thing either towards older kids (whose brain development will be ahead) or towards crammed kids (that are made to memorize) This is my opinion of course and I'm sure everybody will have a different view. I am mother of a July born uncrammed boy. We are in at KCJS and wait listed at CC and WUS. DS is still on time tables 2-3-4-5.. and we havent put much emphasis on that. But rather focused his overall understanding of subjects, world etc.

amyfowler · 05/02/2015 12:42

Would anyone have a realistic assessment on how many kids applied to and available spaces at CC/WUS/kcjs this year? I think it's 36 for CC and 56 (I think ~25 going to kings prep school). I have no idea how many space at WUS and total applicants to these schools this year.
