We're due to get our first letter through on Thursday but hold out little hope so starting a thread for mutual commiseration (congratulation for the lucky ones), advice on breaking bad news and comparing notes about waiting lists although not sure we'll even be lucky enough to get to that stage.

I have thought about little else for the last two weeks and feel more nervous than I did before getting my own A level results.

Come reassure me that not getting the school you want at 7 isn't the end of the world!

Bracing myself with wine before tomorrow's news. Results aren't even out yet and I've already been asked by about 5 parents in the playground how he got on. I'd been counting down the days until we'd find out but know I'm thinking not knowing may be better.

Is that KCJS you're waiting for Wandy? Very best of luck to you - wonderful school! My DS have been so happy there.

The selection process is really robust and I think they are very fair. They seem to know what they're looking for and boys really thrive.

wandymum · 28/01/2015 20:24

Yes it is KCJS thanks mertonmama.

We'd love DS to go but there were so many boys sitting the test, so much tutoring going on and whilst he is bright he isn't the most mature. I don't think we did anywhere near enough prep and he is such a dreamer that I wouldn't be at all surprised if he'd spent the 3 hours staring out the window.

Don't despair - both DS went to state school and both are thriving. We did tutor but certainly didn't go over board - an hour a week for about a year.

And don't worry if you're on the waiting list. It does move as soon as the acceptance deadline closes.

How's your post? Ours is dreadful - waiting for 11+ for DD next week. Wish they would email!

wandymum · 28/01/2015 20:48

Good point our post is rubbish so may well be the weekend before I get the letter.

Thanks for the reassurance and good to hear not everyone there has been 'hot-housed' in advance.

So sorry to hear that. Big hug to you. What are the other options?

wandymum · 29/01/2015 08:52

He's at a prep that will carry on through to 13 (thank goodness) so we'll leave him there and try again at that point. It's not very academically pushy though and tends to send more to boarding schools than London day which isn't what I want although DH is keen.

You might want to look at trying 11+ for kings - have you heard about them cutting the size of their 13+ intake in favour of an 11+ cohort? Not v helpful to those at 13+ preps who has their eye on kings.

amyfowler · 29/01/2015 09:10

I am so sorry Wandy.. I guess it's just a very tough year with almost 10 : 1 ratio. It's good that you already have DS at a good place and as lots of MN say.. Sometimes kids bloom a little later..hugs and wishes for you..

shoutymcshoutsmum · 29/01/2015 09:24

DS is on the reserve list - really really pleased. (Sorry to hear your news Wandymum - I think you are very smart to have put your DS in a school that goes to 13. Mine is at a pre-prep so have been panicking.)

amyfowler · 29/01/2015 09:43

Michaelahpurple.. Would you know what will be intake at 11+ going forward and what it used to be historically at kcs for 11+ and 13+.

Thanks

amyfowler · 29/01/2015 09:44
