My DD Y6 doesn't get nightly homework, but a weekly project, expected to take about 1- 1.5 hrs plus nightly reading and spellings. We usually do the project stuff at the weekend. We have also been doing extra work for 11+, but not excessive amounts.
Mon - school choir; ballet
Tues - piano
wed - brownies
Thurs - fortnightly tutor session
fri - nothing
sat - tap lesson, modern lesson

School extra-curricular clubs don't start until after half term, and usually run for half a term at a time. she will usually do one or two of those as well each half-term depending what's on offer.

dizzyday07 · 01/10/2014 10:05

My Yr5 DD doesn't have daily homework except practicing the spellings and times tables needed for a weekly test. She has a termly project based on the current learning topic. (This term it's Macbeth so she had to do something about Scotland)

Monday - Netball
Tuesday - Brownies
Wednesday - Swimming club
Thursday - nothing
Friday - Swimming club
Weekends - Swimming gala monthly

Picturesinthefirelight · 01/10/2014 10:21

Ds is Year 6 of prep school & gets approx 30 mins homework on Mon, Wed & Fri plus spellings & 15 mins reading a day.

He doesn't do many clubs just football one night.

When dd was that age she got homework twice/three times a week but danced almost every day. We told school overnight homework was not possible due to her other commitments.

redskybynight · 01/10/2014 10:38

DS is in Y6, but when he was in Y5 he had

Reading - for at least 15 minutes at least 3 times a week, reading aloud to an adult at least once

Maths - 2 pieces a week, approx 20-30 minutes to complete each
English - 1 piece a week, approx 20-30 minutes to complete
Spelling - 12 words a week
one open ended project every half term.

Clubs wise he did cubs, karate and swimming. Sometimes did a sports club at school (they run a different one every half term) if was interested in the sport.
He also did drama once a week in summer term.

SapphireMoon · 01/10/2014 10:44

Bloody hell to year 5 homework your child getting.
Once a week Maths and literacy here.
About 20 minutes each.
Supposed to read regularly too but not monitored as such.

SapphireMoon · 01/10/2014 10:45

No spellings coming home either....

sunnyrosegarden · 01/10/2014 12:51

Seems a lot of homework for a Year 5.

My two are both juniors, and have 30 mins maths and 30 mins literacy per week. Then reading, which doesn't really count as homework.

Your clubs sound fine, though. My year 6 son does 8 hours organised sport, plus piano and a computer club per week. I'd rather he did that than homework!

sakuracookies · 01/10/2014 12:56

No homework

Monday - gymnastics
Tuesday - tap dancing, private ballet lesson
Wednesday - ballet, modern dance
Thursday - gymnastics
Friday - gymnastics
Saturday - ballet and tap
Sunday - gymnastics

busy!

Taffeta · 01/10/2014 12:57

DS now Y6 but in Y5 he had one piece of Maths and one of Literacy once a week - usually 1.5 hours that would be done at the weekend. Also spellings, reading, times tables plus 11+ work, approx 50 mins x 3-4 times a week.

He had football Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sat and Sun. Tennis on Fridays.

Iamblossom · 01/10/2014 13:02

CPtart · 01/10/2014 13:16

lecherrs · 01/10/2014 21:36

Dd is in year 6.

Homework:

In year five she had some set twice a week, which she would mostly complete at the weekends. Now she is in year six, she gets about ten mins a day.

Clubs:

Mon - gym (4hours)
Tues - free
Wed gym (4 hours)
Thurs dancing (2 hours)
Friday gym (4 hours)
Sat gym (4 hours) plus private lesson for dancing
Sun gym (4 hours).

She's very good at doing her homework in the mornings or on a Tuesday / Thursday evening.

DeWee · 01/10/2014 22:27

Dd in year 6. She has about 1-2hrs of homework to be completed between Wednesday and Monday. Unfortunately Monday and Tuesday are her best nights for doing it. Hmm School changed the nights after she'd chosen afterschool clubs.

Monday-guides
Tuesday-choir (selected), singing lesson (trumpet during school time) book club once a month
Wednesday-judo (before school), choir
Thursday-badminton (before school), art club, gym
Friday-ballet, youth group
Saturday-Ballet, panto rehearsals (only at certain times of the year)

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/10/2014 22:32

Minimal/Optional homework. One English and one Maths assignment pw. We are also doing a bit of 11 + and considering a tutor for this and also maths as he turns out to be a bit of a swot is really into it at the moment.
