More lost swimming goggles - how do you label them?

DS has lost his goggles again. Does anyone have a fail-safe way of labelling them? The best I've come up with is permanent ink, writing his name on the strap, but its not really permanent on swimming goggles.

I sew a name tape around the strap, of course someone could cut it off , but generally things are just mislaid rather than taken and they have come back to us

I would highly recommend this website www.mynametags.co.uk/. The colour stickers are amazing, they stick to anything. Shoes, water bottles, care labels on clothes, they go through the dishwasher, washing machine and tumble drier. I bought some in September and not one has come off or faded. Never tried them on goggles but don't see why they wouldn't work.

Hi pre-swim - Is the problem they take it off at the showering stage?

If so - I have girls so they use their straps - but perhaps your DS can make a slip knot of his goggles through his waste tie string? [Just place goggle under strap/ tie string then pull goggle bit over strap/ string & through the half-circle of the strap of the goggle. Pull firm to tighten in place].

DDs do this before showering and therefore don't forget (although I have to take it off before washing usually).

Liege thanks. I do have stickers and find them good for many things, but they don't stick well to goggle straps unfortunately.

PastSellbyDate I can't imagine my DS being organised enough to do what you suggest , but thanks anyway. I think he dumps them on the bench when getting changed, and they fall on the floor. He's been in a couple of galas recently, so I expect they were left at one of the venues, never to be seen again. However, at least if he leaves the next pair at the school pool a name tag will help them be returned.

The sticky stickers don't stick well to the straps IME, but they do stick well to themselves....so get a bigger sticker and fold it over with the strap sandwiched in the middle, so that the majority of the sticky surface is stuck to the other bit of the sticker surface on the back of the sticker IYSWIM!

It means the name is folded in half but it's readable and neat and won't come off.

Make DC pay for replacements ?

I sew fabric name tapes around the goggle strap too. Works well.

Sharpie pen retouched frequently with our name + phone number.
Sewing name label on is good idea, though.

Any more magic solutions. Sharpie pen. Laundry marker. Nothing works!

The stickers for fabric clothes labels from easy2name have worked well on the flat rubbery bit of dd1's goggles. Not the strap, too much bending, but the bit near her forehead.

I use a stikin on the side of the frame rather than on the strap and it has stayed on really well.

I stamp our goggles with a bespoke name stamp from Stamptastic. The ink lasts for ages and it stamps clothes, water bottles, trainers pretty much everything. My original ink pad has so far lasted 3 years .... I was a bit of a cheapskate tho and just had our surname done and stamp all my kids clothes just with the surname rather than paying for a stamp for each child .

Another who used to sew fabric name tapes around the straps - I got LOADS more returned to me once I'd been given that tip, than ever before - well worth the couple of minutes it takes to do it.

If you lose a lot of goggles, we have found that the £2.99 kids ones from Decathlon are as good as pricey Zoggs ones, but not so traumatic to lose. Available online if you're not lucky enough to have a Decathlon close by. Beware: it's a bad as Ikea for causing un-needed yet strangely essential purchases.

Would nail varnish work?

Sharpie pen on the band (as mentioned before - on the outside) top up regularly as it fades fast with the chlorine.

I think sometimes biro works better than laundry pen. Write in blue then black over the top, maximising the chance that some of the dye will stay.

Fabric nametape sewn round the strap has to be the ultimate solution though. I do still like those sew on name tags.

I've given up on laundry pen, they often run, esp on smooth fabrics.

Sharpie pen on band doesn't work. Its stayed on bridge part of nose though so far. Another lesson tonight will report back!
