3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2014

I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January 2013. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

Panics over! Just had an email from Habs for an invite back.
Please let me know what to expect on 2nd round. Thank you mums!

gemsept · 20/01/2014 12:32

Hi, does anyone know when we are supposed to hear back from 2nd round channing? Thanks

AmIIndecisive · 20/01/2014 16:11

Does anyone know why the schools do wait till the 3rd? Do they contact the nurseries after the Second Rounds?

Smalltoothbrush · 20/01/2014 16:18

I've never heard of nursery contacts after second rounds. I always thought it was just co-ordination between all the schools so all offers go out at once and then if you get more than one you know what you have and can accept/reject quickly so the schools, and parents with kids on the waiting list, aren't left in limbo.

AmIIndecisive · 20/01/2014 16:19

Thanks smalltoothbrush.

We got a rejection letter from Habs today :( but v intrigued to ask for feedback as per posts above.. as other ppl hav said, dd was v tight lipped abt wat she did at assessment but seemed to have really enjoyed herself. Based on wat dd did say, she didn't do any drawing, writing, cutting, colouring or painting, no phonics, reading, counting or number recognition..am wondering what she was assessed on if she jst played with dinosaurs and a princess castle? Am not dwelling on this but am finding it strange to not have a sense of why they felt she wasn't right..dd's nursery have always placed her at top of her class with skills ahead of peer group, have always tried not to get carried away with things and stay grounded but had thought she would thrive in assessment situation.. oh well

Flutterby11 · 20/01/2014 23:21

Also, people on here seem to be applying for schools that sound quite far away from each other. Just wondering how people are able to consider applying to st Albans, nlcs, Habs when they are so far apart, are people planning to move house once place is confirmed or are you happy to tackle long school runs even with a 4yo?

missimperial · 21/01/2014 08:50

Flatterby11, Habs will provide you with a report on your dd's assessment in March if you request it

TracyJudy · 21/01/2014 12:41

Hello, just wondering if anyone has heard back yet from NLCS for 7+. Can you please let me know? Thanks.

BobAli1 · 21/01/2014 13:08

Wondering same thing, time seems to be standing still...

How many places does nlcs have at 7+?

S1va2000 · 21/01/2014 13:53

Hello, anyone who's DD sat for Habs 7+, have you heard and do you know how many places are on offer?
Thanks

doureine · 21/01/2014 14:13

Fluttery 1 was this for 4 plus and 5 plus?

doureine · 21/01/2014 14:14

Flutyerby11 sorry

doureine · 21/01/2014 14:14

Flutterby11 sorry again

doureine · 21/01/2014 14:15

God. Tired today. I meant was it for 4 + or 5+?

Flutterby11 · 21/01/2014 14:16

it was for 4+ at Habs - coldatchristmas, the ncls website says there are 8-10 spaces at 7+

AmIIndecisive · 21/01/2014 14:23

Sorry Flutterby - have you got a back up school?

TracyJudy · 21/01/2014 14:25

Flutterby11, I've heard that Habs do a non-standard entry as well, so perhaps in a year's time, your DD might be more ready for the exam again - if you intend to have her get assessed again, that is?

AmIIndecisive · 21/01/2014 14:26

And did you sit NLCS?

Koalabearsmum · 21/01/2014 15:39

My DD came out and said she drew a picture.
Did 2 puzzles "just in time"
Was read a book to and was asked what the story was about.
She was asked to take away some dinosaurs and put some more in so I'm guessing adding and subtracting concept.
She seemed sure of what happened but who knows.

claretay · 21/01/2014 16:04

Koalabearmum which school assessment wAs that? You must be happy its over now.

Koalabearsmum · 21/01/2014 16:13

Claretay Oh sorry it's was for Habs 4+ this jan. Far from over. Dd got 2nd round to perform.
I didn't prep DD at all and have no clue what R2 is like. So any input I would be ever so grateful!
Thought I share what DD said after R1.

Flutterby11 · 21/01/2014 16:30

Koalabearsmum, actually my dd did mention having to move dinosaurs around, must have been a maths thing as you say
