I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January 2013. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

Nlcs will give feedback depending on how persistent you're willing to be.
Although have to say not very useful. Smalltoothbrush I agree Habs give detailed feedback once the whole process is over.

Thank u so much Coldatchristmas. Eagerly waiting to hear from you.
Nlcs has given feedback to nursery. So try asking ypur head teacher to find out.

sdp123 · 16/01/2014 19:15

Thanks Destiny06 will ask my nursery tomorrow if she received any feedback.

Hi mumteacher and everyone,

Boy do I wish I had found this incredibly useful thread earlier! Naively have entered into 4+ assessments with very little knowledge about what would happen...

Anyway, my daughter did the 4+ assessments last week for NLCS and St Albans Girls. We got the email from NLCS on Mon to say she didn't even get through to the 2nd round, so now am just wondering about how likely (or not) our chances are for getting an offer at St Albans in Feb? Do you know anything about whether they are looking for similar things (skills) or profiles of girls? And whether St Albans ask for a nursery report like NLCS did, or just go on the assessments? My daughter is a Nov birthday so guess that means they will have expected quite a lot?

Trying to find out more info to decrease the stress levels til Feb... many thanks.

Hi there - what a great thread, only just found it. Thanks for all the info. Just wanted to echo what others have asked about Channing second round, any info as to what happens would be v v gratefully received!

Someone was asking upthread about St Christopher's (NW3) assessment. Probably a bit late now, but my dd had a lovely time there the other day, very gentle and welcoming: she ate a biscuit (very important!), did a jigsaw and made a plate with some play food. i think they also read books and did some individual chatting with the assessors. Lovely school.

And sorry, one final question - at Channing, do they still have to sit the 11+, then - its not an automatic passage to secondary school? I know about the 'weeding out' of those they deem less able prior to year 6, but is there still a possibility of not getting in to the senior school based on the 11+ exam? Sorry to ask - I just want to be completely clear!

thanks for all the really helpful info on here.

Smalltoothbrush · 16/01/2014 21:30

No exam currently at channing 11+ but local gossip is about whether one will be introduced with all these double entries at reception.

sdp123 · 17/01/2014 12:39

I just called Habs and no answer

MJizz · 17/01/2014 12:57

A friend called Habs this morning and apparently it went straight through to voicemail saying if you are calling about the 4+ don't worry (ha, ha) we'll get back to you...

MHDad · 17/01/2014 14:01

All, Habs have started calling back...listen/watch your phones. We missed the call, called back and it was them (albeit voicemail)

AmIIndecisive · 17/01/2014 14:10

Mhdad when was your assessment?

MHDad · 17/01/2014 15:02

Was on 11 Jan so the very last ones to be seen

Muzma · 17/01/2014 15:05

Good luck with second round! Did they give you a date?

coldatchristmas · 17/01/2014 15:17

I am stressing out! We sat on 10th jan and still nothing :(

Muzma · 17/01/2014 15:18

We sat fri and nothing here too!! It's just a waiting game

coldatchristmas · 17/01/2014 15:21

Agreed. But I worry the longer we wait the less likely it is to get put through to final interview.

AmIIndecisive · 17/01/2014 15:23

Good luck with round 2 MHDad - is your daughter a July baby?

MHDad · 17/01/2014 15:57

Thanks AmIIndecisive. She's an Aug baby.

coldatchristmas · 17/01/2014 16:38

Has anyone had an email from habs in the last couple of days?

sdp123 · 17/01/2014 16:48

Congrats MHDad, my DD assessment was also on the 11th morning but we have not heard back and no email either.

missimperial · 17/01/2014 16:58

Ours was on the 8th and still radio silence. Have pretty much written this off. Awaiting the Channing results - otherwise Radlett here we come..,

MHDad · 17/01/2014 17:01

sdp123, seems Habs are 'ranking' the girls by the sounds of it given that the last assessments were on saturday afternoon! seems to be a first cut of invited back this week (largely dependent on how the older girls got on earlier in the process). All sorts of theories could be thrown around for this

sdp123 · 17/01/2014 17:09

Ive never felt so ill by this process..... sure for those that are waiting feel the same. Thanks MHDad, trying to stay positive. I think you may be right.

missimperial- is your DC going to Radlett Prep? I applied today ( i know last minute) What are your opinions on the school?

4PlusMum · 17/01/2014 17:33

A friend who sat Habs on Friday has just been called back.

I have turned down Radlett for DD. It has always been predominantly a boys school and I don't think it is a good option for girls. The current reception classes only have 3 or 4 girls in each class, so the girls have no choice of who they are friends with.

I don't think Radlett was fully subscribed - everyone who sat in October was offered a place and some will have turned them down - so there is still a chance of getting in.

runmammarun · 17/01/2014 17:49

Do you think habs will give good news calls tomorrow still (sat)? Or should we assume if we didn't hear back today then the answer is no?
