I'm a proud pedant, but blimey there are some nasty posters about. Seemingly me-railing every thread they can.

Is there a paticular reason why Zing is taking all the flack for taking the piss out of the "spelling mistake" when 48 other people did the same thing?

Anyway of course it wasn't accidental.

The subject matter suggests that the OP knows all about high intelligence, high IQ. So I would imagine, someone in that position was fluent enough in English to know the name of the person she is talking about, no?

sanam2010 · 08/11/2013 12:36

Tantrums, I responded to Zing bc she was the only one who asked "in which language is Einstein spelled Ainstein" and I pointed out that in languages such as Russian or Greek, it could easily happen that the name is transcribed with the equivalent of an A to facilitate correct pronunciation of the name (as if you write ei in russian or greek it would be pronounced as ey, for example).

There may be plenty of poor or uneducated immigrant mums with a very bright child who may be seeking advice without being fluent in English or being able to spell well, she didn't say she was gifted, just that her child was.

This.

Wow, this got nasty.

It's not like she asked about kumon, homework or toilet breaks: the usual kindle.

Maybe I should use that as the name for my book.

ElizabethJonesMartin · 08/11/2013 13:20

Yes, in the private schools. Plenty of us other pay fees for the good day private schools which are academically selective at primary level.

Iamnotminterested · 08/11/2013 13:37

And those fees guarantee academic success?

PattyPuddy · 08/11/2013 13:44

Zing - I've read through your responses and I'm genuinely confused as to why you're getting such a hard time here Confused. I think it's all been a good laugh and no harm has been done.

It's dry humour; the best kind and if you don't have that sense of humour you'll miss an awful lot of fun.

I do wish the OP would come back and say something so that we could all laugh about it together; which is what we are doing - except the OP Sad.

I've lived in foreign countries and not been fluent and some of my mistakes have been hilarious. It's great to be able to laugh.

This thread is way less fun than the one where the poster asked about what to do with her minge instead of her mince.

MLP · 08/11/2013 13:55

The OP clearly doesn't speak English as a first language so give him/her a break. He/she has also posted a question on MN re schools for a 4 year old near Hatfield, Herts - so maybe someone can help with that instead of sniggering at a typo.

WereTricksPotter - I don't know what your issue is however you are becoming rather tedious and annoying.

MoldieOldNaiceHam · 08/11/2013 18:34

A little game of pot kettle anyone?

Such a lot of angst about a funny mistake in a thread title. What could have been a bit of wryly amusing banter has got all handwringing and finger pointing.

Just fyi, Zing is getting it because she is suggesting the op may be a troll and she keeps going on about it. Weer is getting it because some people just can't help jumping on a bandwagon and she keeps responding to the provocation.

I suggest we all put our pointy sticks down and stop poking at each other.

It's Friday. Have a Wine and chill the fuck out.
