Peaee where could I obtain a copy? Book available?

Do not know some answers to my child's homework as I was taught so differently...need a full curriculum to help..where could I get one?

yes , if you register as a parent, you can go in each year group which is divided into maths, english and science. In each subject, it has a list of areas that needed to be taught in that year. It has a page of explanation (i guess that is what you are after) followed by the worksheets. I copy a page for you here: (Is it ilegal???)

This would great help in helping my child as I really don't know what et are teaching them at school n all the various subjects.

New national curriculum for 2014 (or this year if in year 3 or 4 I think).

These are the only two statutory documents about what needs to be taught. Everything else is up to individual schools. I think what you are looking for is not the curriculum but something that explains it in detail to parents.

What year group are you looking for? Do you have a specific question or area that you need help with or is it more general?

just scroll down and chose mathematics, english or science. This will give you a brief summary of what should be taught by year.

From 2014/ 2015 academic year - we should be working to the new national curriculum, but the finalised programmes of study have yet to be made publically available (I'd imagine in late winter/ early spring they'll roll them out).

Why not ask the school? Bear in mind that they may not be sticking to the curriculum to th letter, and different teachers have different ways.

The National Curriculum says what should be taught not how so I'm afraid you aren't the only people who can tell you how your child's school teaches specific content is the teachers.

mrz's post raised an alternative interpretation of the OP's original question - I thought bumbly was asking in terms of not understanding what is taught when - didn't really twig it could also mean how things are taught.

Woodlands Junior School Maths Zone: resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/ - this won't explain to you how to teach your child/ but it is full of video games to help your child by topic. I tend to try out the games myself to work out if I feel they'll be too easy or too difficult for my DDs.

math champs: www.mathschamps.co.uk/#home - has math games set up by age bands (5 - 7, 7 - 9 and 9 - 11). It can be a bit disheartening going back to a section which is for slightly younger kids (e.g. times tables spread throughout 3 areas) - but lots of great practice and good fun.

BBC Bitesize - either KS1 or KS2 - also have maths games & review of how to do things -

BBC Bitesize KS1: www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/maths/ - this will probably be challenging for Y1 and more suitable for Y2.

BBC Bitesize KS2: www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/maths/ - this could be challenging Y3/ Y4 - and more suitable Y5, definitely Y6.

Finally - don't underestimate the power of a search engine - type in 'what does [insert maths term] mean' or 'How do you [insert maths term]' and see what comes up. There are tons of videos now. I'd advise reading through/ previewing - to judge which you feel explains it best - but search engines really do make life as a parent so much easier!

Forgot to say many schools have numeracy policies which explain how they will teach main maths calculations: addition/ subtraction/ multiplication/ division & when.

Often schools will prepare maths targets for parent/ teacher evenings - sometimes even booklets explaining what will be covered this term/ year.

Finally - many schools offer maths days/ workshops where parents can come and learn more about maths in whatever year, get some ideas on what to do at home and can ask questions.

If your school isn't or hasn't said something - maybe just ask if they are planning to.

Does this mean what I think it means? That there is effectively no national curriculum for a year and then it will start again next year after schools have doen whatever they want for a year? The gov website says for English (and Maths and I think most subjects) :

"The current national curriculum programmes of study for English at key stages 1 and 2 have been disapplied with effect from 1 September 2013 for pupils in years 3 and 4 and are no longer statutory in relation to those year groups.

This means that schools are free to develop their own curriculums for English that best meet the needs of their pupils, in preparation for the introduction of the new national curriculum from September 2014. Further details are available via the link on this page."

The OP said they don't know how to help their child as they were taught differently ... method ?

no thechandra it doesn't mean there isn't a national curriculum for a year. In Y1,2,5 &6 we must continue to follow the current national curriculum but in Y3 & 4 (only)schools may choose to follow the new curriculum instead

Nope - Y2 and Y6 still won't have to until Sept 2015.

I say you should ask the school too - the teacher will know what and how she is teaching, and I'm sure will be happy to talk to you.

Teachers should note that in the 2014 to 2015 academic year, pupils in years 2 and 6 should be taught the current programmes of study in English, mathematics and science. These pupils will sit the current key stage 1 and 2 tests respectively. New tests will be available from 2016.

We use School Explained - think it's a new site but it does just that, loads of really detailed advice from actual teachers, and you can even ask questions. Expensive, but worth it!

As far as I can see, one has started the new national curriculum having gone into year 3 and the other will keep doing the old until the end of year two.

school are implementing it all in a weird way though. sure it will all make sense in the end.
