name labels for uniform- any recommendations?

I need to buy labels for my son's uniform (I'm new to all this, his first year at school and all that!)

anyone recommend any/ the best quality?

I'm not about to start sewing them all in so I guess iron on are the best?

There are ones that stick onto the clothes label, you can use them on shoes and water bottles and things as well. Will find the link.

ooh sounds even easier than the iron on ones- thanks for the link! Not sure what I'll do when younger brother needs the clothes- do they peel off to put replacements on?

I wouldn't worry too much about renaming when stuff gets passed down. I never do. The teachers all know the the names of older brothers and sisters and know that if the name says dc1 then it probably belongs to dc2!

The best way of labelling most clothes is with a Sharpie

Apart from sports socks, nearly everything else has a white washing instruction tag, some even have a place intended for writing on (eg most school socks now have a white strip).

Oh I don't bother labelling socks, and in 2 years haven't lost any yet

I agree with Grimma - a sharpie pen. Much easier and quicker.

I've been sewing them in for 10 years. I now have a sharpie. Don't make extra work for yourself.

Stamptastic! You get a stamp with whatever name you want and an ink pad that can be used on anything and lasts for years. No sewing, gluing, ironing etc just stamp whatever you want. They are fab, can be used on anything.

TBH my DD loses socks whether they are labelled or not. She's 14 and she still manages to lose them!

I have never found an iron on name label that actually works!

My mum sews my kids in! And my naps for her care home stuff. She does hundreds, bless her!

yeah that's true, thanks! All ordered- good idea that the stick on ones can go on lunch boxes, bottles etc, saves me worrying about separate stickers for them!

oh just read all the other posts! Yep sharpies are good- will use as a back up-thanks! just find that sometimes the label isn't big enough or the writing merges- thats probably just me not being very neat and tidy!

Judging by my DS, a lot of clothes won't be fit for handing down after a year of wear anyway. Some of his jumpers are ok though.

If the label is to short for the full name just put initials on.

I have written in with a pen into all of DS much simpler!

I'd stick your surname on them. If they last long enough to be handed down then it won't matter and they are less likely to be pinched.

They have iron on fabric name tapes which stay on, and stick on labels that stick to everything - shoes, lunch boxes, recorders etc etc. I have just ordered another lot for my eldest to start secondary school and my father for his care home!

Mothercare do a laundry pen (or used to) it's finer nibbled than a Sharpie.

I like the new Easy2Name iron-ONS though, they have rounded corners so they don't peel off so easily.

I got some iron on ones, water proof stickers and see through protector things o go over the stickers in shoes.from name tags 4 u They arrived the day after I ordered them, the labels are good quality, have rounded edges and stick really well. theres a choice of pictures and colours and they are cheaper than a lot of companies.

Sharpie! or actually a biro is fine if you re do it very few months.
Oh and like magichamster I used to think it didn't matter about changing the names on clothes passed onto younger siblings.....until I started working in a school! Not every person working with your child will know all members of the family. Please name with current child that is wearing the jumper. (unless school is really tiny of course)

Another vote for easy2name iron on woven labels. They really do stay put.

Many of my Cash's name tapes are on their 8th year. I sew them in, cut them out, sew them in. Have just been sitting watching the Dr. Who Prom sewing tapes in for next week - though have slightly doctored them so the little dinosaurs/cars that went through Primary aren't visible in Y7!

After three kids and trying everything going, I now swear by Stikins. Bloody brilliant labels-survive endless washing machine washes and also go on lunchboxes/drinks bottles in the dishwasher. Worth every penny.
