Just wondering what SAT papers are normally done in year 2. DD said she did 3 maths tests this week. Is that likely to be SATs?

Thanks.

I'm not sure how you concluded that I'm keen on procedure from my post letthembe. I agree I'm not keen on breaking the law however. What I do is report level 1, level 2a,b or c and level 3 (no A,B,Cs)

I think all assessment can be useful if used for the right reason - knowing what a child can do and how to help them move forward and that includes summative assessments.

Feenie · 22/05/2011 08:23

It's reported as level 3, mrz, but the LEA say a child can't be a level 3 unless they are a 3b Confused - this is since 2005. And yes, level 3s did go down, authority wide!

mrz · 22/05/2011 08:45

I've not had those instructions from my LEA Feenie.

spanieleyes · 22/05/2011 09:05

We have! Level 3's in KS1 SATs are recorded for Raiseonline and so for CVA purposes as 21 points which is a 3B.

bidibidi · 22/05/2011 11:05

Weird, mrz, I've heard the "strong Level 3b to be a Level 3 at all" guidance for years on MN. Shouldn't vary by LEA, should it?!

Feenie · 22/05/2011 11:17

It definitely does.

gordongrumblebum · 22/05/2011 12:09

So, in your LEAs that insist on L3=3B to be reported, what percentage of L3 writers do you expect?

Do you base your writing moderation on the national standards on the standards site, where the 'secure 3' seems over-assessed?

letthembe · 22/05/2011 12:12

In the school where I work it will be about 25% Level 3b writers and little higher for reading and maths.

gordongrumblebum · 22/05/2011 12:21

We're obviously going wrong somewhere.

gordongrumblebum · 22/05/2011 12:25

Spaniel - we're aware of 3B being reported for L3 on Raiseonline, but we haven't stopped reporting 3C as level 3 in end of year results in Y2.

25% 3B writers...... I'm still gobsmacked.

mrz · 22/05/2011 12:57

gordongrumblebum we are the same although I do break it down for school/parents records in my teacher assessment.

gordongrumblebum · 22/05/2011 13:14

Yes, so do we mrz...but I certainly won't break many down to 3B! (Unless I was comparing them to the exemplar on the standards site, that we think is a secure 2a with elements of 3c.)

mrz · 22/05/2011 13:55

I have more 3A/Bs in maths and reading than in writing.

spanieleyes · 22/05/2011 14:07

We use 3c as a teacher assesment but not as a KS1 SAT level ( if that makes sense!). There we would just report a 3 BUT we would have to be VERY sure they were working at a good 3 to say this, simply because we have been caught out too many times by Raiseonline!

gordongrumblebum · 22/05/2011 14:07

And me. Only a couple of mine (maybe 3) have the maturity of language to warrant a 3B in writing (only because they've only been alive about 80 months, and have been speaking for about 68 months, not because they don't try hard to use adjectives, connectives, varied punctuation, paragraphs, speech marks, pronouns, etc!)
What does anyone else think of the exemplar of the secure 3 on the standards site? Julia, I think!

Sorry for hijack OP!! Smile
