when do I tell school ds is going private?

Hi Mnetters, I just wanted to ask when those of you, who have moved your DCs from state school to private, informed the school of your intentions?

My DS is in reception, so no immediate rush, but we are thinking of 7/8+ for him. When is the right time to mention it? Should I be upfront from now?

exexpat snap!! dd also moved to y3 for similar reasons (but also social ones as all her close friends moved away during y2 :()

namechanges it has been a resounding success - she loves it for all the same reasons as exexpat's dd - has discovered the joys of competitive sport (personally I loathed netball/hockey but she thinks they're the best thing ever)

She likes having separate subjects often taught by different teachers - they do an afternoon of art, an afternoon of DT, two afternoons of sport, singing, music, French every week with a French teacher - the school day is 30 mins longer than her old school but they seem to pack an awful lot more in

She's completely engaged with school, loves going in the mornings (was often reluctant last year) and it has been a resounding success. She's also very conscious of her good fortune - I overheard her talking to one of her friends yesterday and they were both happily saying how lucky they were that they went to this school

If you were thinking of moving house in a couple of years time, you wouldn't inform the school, would you? Don't worry about it - kids leave schools all the time for all sorts of reasons. That said, you may need to develop rhinocerous skin after you give notice.
