Hi

DSD turns 11 in July and we have bought her a laptop, but I am having second thoughts mainly due past posts and not wanting her to think she is getting spoilt as she came from having truthfully nothing at her mums to a (what we think) is a normal bedroom, possessions for her age ie she has a tv, wii, ds, phone that she has aquired in a short space of time

So if we keep the lappyu till xmas as her main present and get her what ? or am i being silly

We manage fine with one family pc - and my husband and I run our own business, we have three children and my oldest dd is in year 7 at a v academic secondary school. Not that that means anything but if we can manage with one pc then I should think most people can. Luckily dds school doesn't rely on internet based homework, she still seems to write in textbooks! I would. Be concerned about policing use as IME 11/12 is the age when social networking of whatever form can be immersive and distracting.

rossettes - I just monitor every so often tbh. Have gone down the route of trying to just educate DD about internet safety, etc. She's still too ypung for social networking tbh. But even if DD didn't have access to it at home she'll eventually be able to access it elsewhere, hence preferring to go down the talking, discussing route than the prevention entirely.

We don't have a family PC at all. I have a laptop. We got DD a desktop as felt it was better for her to be using. And as said before - I don't want to share my laptop particularly.

THB At 11 she is too young for social networking and still loves the disney & Cbbbc etc sites but she has family abroad so skype can be installed etc
