Harry Potter? - white shirt/black trousers/glasses/cloak

MerlinsBeard · 31/10/2006 13:53

harry and his bucketful of dinosuars? charlie from charlie and lola?

DS1 went as spiderman, there were lots of witches and wizards in the primary school and a few scooby doo's too!

Iklboo · 31/10/2006 13:54

Tom Sawyer? Dungarees & shirt with sleeves roled up, straw hat & "fishing pole" made from broom handle or bamboo cane with string line

busybusymum · 31/10/2006 13:58

my son had a bob the builder outfit so went as bob !

wizards are good and easy!

Charlie bucket from Charlie and the choc factory, (Very easy :any old clothes and a big golden ticket)

Heard a lovely one for Mr Tickle but maynot have enough time: orange socks, t shirt and shorts extra orange socks sewn together to make really long arms, orange rubber gloves sewn on the end!

Mr Bumb : blue clothes and plasters and bandages

HTH

Horrid Henry... then all he needs is scruffy hair and a dirty face Or is that the norm as it is in our house? lol

NotQuiteCockney · 31/10/2006 14:12

DS1 won "best costume" in his class this year - went as Captain Underpants. Beige leggings, pale tshirt, big white pants on top, with lines drawn on to make them look like proper y-fronts. Bald head (ok, a swimming cap), and a cape made out of a pillowcase, with holes cut in it, and a bit of string, and dots drawn on it.

It certainly looked like a homemade costume.

Only works if your DS is a fan of Captain Underpants, really.

A mouse (from the Gruffalo) is pretty easy - brown trousers and T-shirt (or grey if you like); make a fur tail and attach with safety pin or sew to trousers, sew felt ears to a headband. Paint face if you like.

Or Peter or Edmund from Narnia are pretty good, silver cape, big silver shield with red lion on, various knights' bits liek sword and helmet (we have these but you may not!).

Robin Hood is in a book, isn't he? Green tunic, green hat, make a bow and arrow or use one you have (hmm bit of a weaponry theme emerging here).

What have you got in the way of dressing up? Anything you can adapt (eg fireman = Fireman Sam etc)

bustybrenda · 31/10/2006 14:23

bless you all - thanks so much for the ideas! Come to think of it - we do have a Bob costume already - would he get away with using Bob as a book character or do you think he is more of a TV character?

I'd go with Bob the Builder outfit if you have one. DD loves dressing up and has mainly disney princess outfits - there are dozens of books on these. DS has a fireman out fit - that would be a fireman sam book or Buzz Lightyear. Wonder if anybody forgets on Friday - They done it at my sons nursery, he only goes 2 morning and there were only about 2 children dressed up - yes I did forget, didn't though for dd for some reason!

BloodyTenaLady · 31/10/2006 14:38

Harry Potter

BloodyTenaLady · 31/10/2006 14:38

sorry just saw mac's post

busybusymum · 31/10/2006 14:43

its fine if you use a tv character like BOB the Builder as he is also in loads of books too!

Have fun

Funny bones - black t-shirt leggings with bones painted on. May be able to get some reduced left over halloween stuff.

fairyjay · 31/10/2006 15:38

The Boy David.

We've just done the book character day thing. Ds1 went as Harry Potter - just had a cloak (cheap hallowe'en one) with the hogwarts badge pinned on (printed one off the internet), drew a scar on his forehead and as he already wears glasses that was that. Ds2 went as Harry (and the bucketful of dinosaurs.) So he took in a bucket with ... dinosaurs. He loved it as he loves dinosaurs and they aren't usually allowed to take toys in. I did make a bit of an effort to match up his clothes to what the character is wearing in the book, but not much!

HallgerdaLongcloak · 31/10/2006 19:51

Burglar Bill?

busybusymum · 31/10/2006 23:38

Cat costume: can be as easy as black trousers and top and add a tail. Can be Six dinner Sid (send him in with 6 plastic plates or bowls!) or Mr Mistoffelles (sorry spellings ? it late)
