Apparently there is going g to be a geophysical event in 2027 and the next Ice age cometh. Apart from stockpiling wood for the log burner and buying some cast iron pans to heat up the baked beans, what would you prep?

Evidence for abrupt climate change is readily apparent in ice cores taken from Greenland and Antarctica.

A big coat. I'm in the north so I already have -one- three.

BobbyBiscuits · 06/06/2025 13:43

I guess I'd better find a few people who can help me build an igloo using YouTube videos. 🤣

BlackeyedSusan · 09/06/2025 21:16

The article you’ve posted does not say that.

OP posts:
TimeIy · 11/06/2025 19:30

That article also doesn’t say anything about a major geophysical event in 2027 causing the dawning of a new ice age.

You’re making stuff up, for some very strange reason.

Blimeyitscold · 11/06/2025 23:14

It’s good to plan early before the loo roll rush starts again.

Carrots. For snowman noses. You don't want to be without those when the snow cometh.

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/06/2025 23:16

I mean, it’s just a thread for a bit of fun.

If we’re bringing the bog roll into this, then I’d be stocking up on pasta (rigatoni for me, please) and probably M&S picky bits

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/06/2025 23:17

Oh, and a Mr Frosty.

Finally!

Blimeyitscold · 11/06/2025 23:20

Good pro-tip about the picky bits. At least we won’t have to worry about there being enough room in the fridge.

@TimeIy begone with you and your unmumsnetty ways before you get darked on.

Honestly, apart from stocking up on wood and cast‑iron pans, I’d grab a ready‑made survival kit like the Helikon Bail Out Bag from Military.eu. Packed with essentials like shelters, fire‑starters, first‑aid supplies and tools for at least 72 hours. And don’t forget to practice basic skills - like filtering water, lighting a fire reliably, and cooking on your wood burner - because having gear is one thing, actually using it is what counts.

Blimeyitscold · 23/07/2025 20:26

I need to order some more wood!

OP posts:
GoldAnt · 27/07/2025 22:51

Sounds solid! I'm also starting to really appreciate ready-made kits – way easier than gathering everything piece by piece. That Helikon Bail Out Bag looks decent, especially for someone just starting out. And you're absolutely right about the skills – gear alone won’t help much if you don’t know how to use it under pressure...

WinniLoy · 28/07/2025 14:40

As for the next ice age itself, I wouldn't be so sure, but the world is getting crazier and crazier, so we can't be sure what will happen in six months, a year, or 10 years. It's better to think ahead, learn something, and prepare yourself than to cry and complain like most people do later.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 28/07/2025 14:44

I live in Northern Canada. We’re pretty used to the cold.

DinoLil · 28/07/2025 14:56

I can't even prep for tomorrow!

Blimeyitscold · 30/07/2025 13:38

Thanks ⬆️ I was just about to ask where people get their kits from.

Humans lived in the last ice age. Before the dawn of modern technology, there was no heating, no cars, and they lived in huts with clothing made from animal hide

They survive because their migrated south away from the advancing ice caps
They didn't live in the polar regions

Given that the whole thing you said is disingenuous in the first place, I don't what you point is. The temperatures might cool a bit in 2027, there have been cooling events before, look them up. Humanity survived.

Blimeyitscold · 08/08/2025 21:31

Are you saying I’m disingenuous?

Already said it.

SaltAirAndTheRust · 25/08/2025 19:53

Absolutely fuck all. I’m not a survivor type. Just let me go peacefully and preferably in my sleep
