I'm not expecting the world to end after brexit, but I do think getting fresh fruit / veg might be tricky for a while.

Ive started buying a few tins of fruit with every shop, and my plan is to shop near the end of december and get in some berries / soft fruit which will hopefully last a couple of weeks, and some apples / pears etc while will last a couple more in the fridge. Then we'll be onto tinned stuff.

Is there anything else I can do? Anything I've not thought of? How do you like to eat tinned fruit?

No definitely can't hurt, was thinking to buying a pot or two of veg that I can grow indoors, maybe salad, peppers & tomatoes.

The easiest thing to grow indoors is chilli peppers. 1 small plant produces all you're likely to need.
I'm growing cape gooseberries in the sitting room. They look great but aren't edible - or not yet, anyway.

Must try them Greektome , have basil and parsley at home which seem to be growing ok, chives didn't work though.

Stupid question, can you freeze pineapple? I have two sitting in the fridge from veg boxes and it would be good to preserve them.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/11/2020 18:56

Hmmm, dont know. Do those gammon and pineapple dinners you get from the supermarket freeze?

MarshmallowManiac · 29/11/2020 00:19

Pleased with myself this evening washed, cut and froze two bags of peppers to do fajitas with a couple of times in Jan. Grin

You can freeze the pineapple. They sell bags of it in Iceland etc. I bought a couple of pineapples reduced, cut into chunks and froze on a tray before putting into bags. I vacuum packed mine but a freezer bag is fine.

I've made a big pan of veg soup today. Lots of different kinds of veg, and if you mix in cheese and maybe chicken it's a full meal. Running out of freezer space though.

@nicslackey brilliant! Thanks Smile

I have run out of freezer space too. Significant chunks of space is taken up with Christmas dinner. I will spend that last week freezing fresh veg as we eat our way through Christmas.

Sticking to pineapple in tins. Good to know it can be frozen though. Thanks.

MarshmallowManiac · 29/11/2020 17:53

Yep run out of freezer space too Sad

BlackeyedSusan · 29/11/2020 20:23

My total space in two freezers is less than Han the space in my mum's upright freezer. Mine are 1 large drawer, one small drawer and one half drawer each.

Conference pears also freeze. Cook them first in the microwave and freeze in the water/juice. Taste like tinned pears.

MarshmallowManiac · 29/11/2020 23:13

We had tinned peaches and custard tonight yum.
