BREXIT Stash - how long will your stash last?

So I started prepping lightly for Brexit, a box of medicines (calpol, piriton, paracetamol, plasters etc.) I am now investigating the other threads for what people are prepping in terms of food, but I am struggling to decide how long the food will need to last.

How long will your food stash last you? Thanks.

Ideally over a month, maybe longer. But I use pressure canning and dehydrating to save some fresh stuff. I have had perfectly nice freezers go bump on me for different reasons and it made me twitchy about having all my fresh stuff stored there.

I think you should initially aim for a couple of weeks and then build it out to a month and then build it out to a couple of months.

Mine would probably last us (family of four) about 3 months at the moment but I will be building it up further due to potential brexit difficulties.

Hopefully we will never need it.

I am really struggling to build up food supplies enough. We are definitely doing better and have tins in the cupboard where we didn't before but
1)I am finding towards the end of the month when funds are running low we are dipping into it more than I would like.
2)It is hard to get enough meat. We have tinned pulses and tuna. A spam and a corned beef. That's about as far as I can push it!
Definitely could do a week but not sure how to work up to more.

@smerlin Morrisons are selling Look What we found pouches for £1. They don't stock the whole range but have chicken casserole, chilli, bolognese and meatballs. They have about 12 months on them so are really good for the stockpile.

I've also been buying chicken in white sauce. Home bargains have the princes tins for just over a pound.

I can do a month easily. A few more weeks and I’ll be able to do two.

Its also easy and cheap to cook since it can be done in a microwave.

It isn't easy to build up a stockpile unless you have a lot of money. Thats one of the reasons why we do it gradually over time. Doing it gradually also helps with rotating things to ensure your use by dates don't all land at the same time.

I could do an interesting fortnight and a boring month! not sure either would be nutritionally sound - bit short of greens/veg

I'm sure my grandparents bought vacuum packed meat that didn't have to be in the fridge but I can't find any - no one has even heard of it (I thought Bacon but I could be misremembering. Hot dog sausage and ham and tuna are all in tins

I'm also thinking about water......and electric (solar panels anyone) but the electric I was thinking about anyway

Make sure you are also thinking about breakfasts. And dairy or dairy substitutes. And household cleaning. And personal hygiene- including toothpaste. And treats to cheer you up.
And if you have kids who are fussy eaters - or grown ups who are fussy- that isn't going to go away.

Currently have a month- we could stretch if needed. We've been going gradually and have been surprised at how quickly it has built up.

Noticed today that the Morrisons offer on the look what we found pouches has gone off. They're now £1.48. Still cheaper than other supermarkets. I'm hoping a different supermarket will put the offer on since they often rotate.

I'm thinking of ways to save money as well as help the environment. So now I need more dishwasher tablets, I'm going to get the powder instead of the plastic capsules which are outrageously expensive in all supermarkets I've been in, especially if you use brands like fairy

Unfortunately prepping and saving money don't always go hand in hand. Often longer life things are more expensive.

I agree though that the dishwasher powder is a better option for money saving and for the environment (although it isn't always the easiest thing to get hold of unless you buy the expensive branded stuff)

Mine will be used sooner than I thought as I'm off into Hospital for an op next week

So lots of easy food for the family to cook and I'll restock when I'm better - I like having a buffer

I suspect you won't be able to believe it if there is no deal and we are having food supply problems either.

Prep or do not prep. It would be better if everyone did but its only your own family that will really be affected if you don't bother.

I think i could go about 1 month easily. 1.5 to 2 at a stretch but i doubt it will come to that.

I think fuel will be the buggest hassle for me. No fuel = no work= no pay =no food.

Always start with things you actually eat anyway muststopsnacking. If you click onto the peppers topics there are a few active threads at the moment including one asking for Critique where the OP has started from scratch and has set out her list

User but its high risk and if something happened to my house and i also stored fuel i think it woukd probably invalidate my insurance!

Oh sorry Whisky I meant put some food aside in case you did have a reduced income due to fuel problems. Not that you should stockpile fuel.
