How do you plan to protect yourselves/stockpile should the worst happen?

Don't really mean a no deal Brexit. More like nuclear war/rioting and looting/apocalypse etc.

So, should the world go tits up, how will you protect yourself and your assets? The truth is, should the worst happen, unless you've got weapons to fight off other humans/zombies, you are going to be up shit creek anyway?

(This is a genuine thought of mine - I am half heartedly prepping as it does seem slightly pointless if someone is going to come along and pinch it all using violence.)

Should the very worst happen, I'd give me an optimistic month maybe two. Depends how "worst".
I am more with the running away than the defending myself.

I don't have much in my house, so post Brexit if there are supply issues I will be eating odd food choices - because that's all that got through or is in stock excess- like many people.

Apocalypse scenario means I either go to sleep forever with the other bad people, inherit an earth with no bad people or go to heaven.

You will need to store in your living space soil/compost so you can grow plants to eat, once the sun shines again after having scraped several layers of radioactive soil off the top layer.

You will need about two years worth of food, loo roll etc, medicine, wood and water stored. Where will you store human waste?

You will need strong walls and roof along with a way to clear the air, heat and cool the temperature.

Where will you store and care for some chicken, a few goats?

I prep for the most likely things to happen but I am aware of the unlikely and catastrophic things.

I am thinking even if we went on the move (I think maybe The Road comes to mind when thinking about this) I would want to protect what I had and my family.

I have no weapons though. Don't want to elaborate on what I'm tempted to do though

I thought some of you other preppers may have thought it out. If you have resources, other people will ultimately want them.

Some vinegar in a spray bottle into the eyes of burgers should give you time to run away. You don't want to be in the position of trying to defend yourself against a knife wielding man. Despite surviving, there was a recent case of a pensioner who killed a burglar and now can't return to his own home because of threats by the burglars family.

I understand that some are looking at slingshots.

Brit in the US, we have a pump action shotgun for home defense, and handguns for personal defense.

We have designed our garden and drive to funnel would be intruders into designated kill zone

If the world were to go tits up I'd rather be out it as fast as possible to be honest.

I imagine trying to get as far away from cities and towns as possible, holing up with my loved ones somewhere very remote and putting into action everything I've learned about survival/foraging/producing clean water etc.

That's not much of a plan, but it's what we'd do.

Assuming its not nuclear, but more like catastrophic society collapse:

Strategically trash your house (smash windows, doors etc) so it already looks looted, retreat to live mostly in a more concealed space within the house. Store stuff in many places so that even if one stash is found, another might be missed. Put some stuff in obvious places (e.g. kitchen shelves) while the rest of it in the back of sofa, in loft, under floorboards, etc. Cook in the middle of the night to avoid people smelling your 3 coarse roast, or ideally just eat cold stuff. Bury the rubbish so its not obvious how many tins you're getting through. Go on severe rations so you look as thin as everyone else rather than well fed. Band together with your neighbours even if it means sharing your stash, as there is strength in numbers. Join in with your neighbours in looting elsewhere. Be prepared to lie and watch your neighbours kids die of starvation... not sure I could do that but who knows how we might each respond when it comes to it!

Not sure I like the idea of running to the hills. In reality I think it would mean packing the car, living for a week on a gridlocked motorway just outside your city, before traipsing through mud / heatwave with only what you can carry on your back, back to your looted home, with none of your survival kit left!

Basically do all you can to make it look like you have no resources. Once you're found out, you'll have no choice but to give them up or be injured or worse.

Retreating to our loft might be an idea, but then if someone decided to torch our house we'd be screwed.

I'm not sure how many scruples I'll have when it comes to protecting my own children.

If it comes to that, I will certainly be keeping our stash secret. And pretending we don't have one. And having a back up plan to get the hell out.

I am a prepper in Wales serious I have all the books and am planning what any shit hits my fan. Getting the food, growing veggies, chickens arriving September. got water sorted solar and rain water saving going. Just got to sort the meds and cleaning solutions and planning on bug out vehicle. So much fun I tell you. Security also to be planned, but having an ex army husband that knows to hunt and fish and the wonderful mountains and river we have surrounding us

Any ideas on a ideal bug out vehicle I was told any older type 4 w d without electronics that a sonic blast could whip out would do. I have seen a nice Land Rover 110 L w b for sale but husband hates them because he had to drive them in the army. Maybe Mitsubishi shogun, don't know

I wouldn't want to survive a really major global incident along the lines of nuclear war or pandemic but happy to prep for weather, illness and transport links problems.

well i can't drive, so I'd be stuck here like a sitting duck. Behind gates but that wouldn't stop people. Guess my only option would be to invest in a slingshot and hope for the best!

I’ve got a shotgun and a Mitsubishi Outlander. Unfortunately I also have a T1D partner and three kids :S so it looks like I’m staying at home.
