I read a thread on the net a while ago about meds that should be stockpiled.

There were loafs of Americans stockpiling fish antibiotics

Does anyone have a list of easily available, non-prescription UK meds?

A common sensible sort of list?

I read most of this piece on the use of animal preparations and I didn't find it reassuring, I have to say.

How's your everyday first aid and your herbal know-how?

PS - that site is American. I don't know where you're posting from or how much of that applies to the UK if you're posting from there.

Fish antibiotics are a bit beyond me.

I suppose I have the usual.

Paracetamol (inc. calpol) /Aspirin/ibuprofen, sudocrem, bandages and TCP.

If you've read some of the other threads on this board, you'll appreciate that antimicrobial resistance is with us right now. Dipping into some of the threads or this site might help you. If serious bad times come upon us, I'd personally be inclined to use as much of your family's immune systems as possible. That likely means some first aid training if you have a source nearby. That, to me, would be the common sense approach.

What are the odds on getting prescription meds (Life sustaining) two or three months in hand.

Due to a cock up I have ended up with two months worth of prescription meds in the cupboard (so one month in hand when I run out) It struck me that as I am one of the 5% of suckers that pays for my meds it wont cost the NHS any more for me to have say three months worth at any time. Then if the worst comes to the worst I have a leeway to fall back on.

Are the meds time-sensitive?

I have a life long condition and am trying to have at least a month in hand

If the meds aren’t time or power sensitive (eg requiring refrigeration) then that’s likely a good idea.

I agree. (But only if you can be sure to source them correctly.) First aid is always good.

I stockpile my meds. I’ve started cutting down so I have even more. However in real deal SHTF the pharmacy would be looted, so I’d be sending my dp to join the raid.

Strongly advise against planning to loot. You could get hurt either in the scrum or by official defence of the premises. If you are planning to stockpile your own meds, that's for you to think about without such a plan.
If you want meds for barter, cold remedies are just as likely to be useful. Better off looking for something else to barter with instead.

Looting - you are right, we live near a village with a few pharmacies that probably would be best, rather than towns and cities.

You might get more bang for your buck with fags and alcohol.

It might be good for me to get non-drinkable alcohol. Hic.

I recall, that at university, I was minded to try distilling. I reckoned that if we were caught, any sheriff or judge would be so charmed by the 'old-fashioned' nature of the crime that we would receive a minimal sentence. After I'd done some homework on the topic, I realised how dangerous it was, though.

Drinkable alcohol is the way to go.
