Renaming topic to The Bunker - views?

Several posters supported the renaming of this board to The Bunker, so as to avoid the nutters wrong sort of discussion from more extreme elements. OliviaMNHQ canvassed support during another thread but to make it easier, let's put the topic name discussion in one place.

Personally, I'm all for The Bunker.

I don't even read these threads, scaremongering.

I like the bunker too or maybe the Anderson and obviously I read every post

Thought someone had already requested to MNHQ that it was renamed emergency preparedness of something similar after discussion on another thread

Doesn't really bother me what it is called it is still a useful area for discussion and idea or knowledge sharing

If it has to be renamed, which I don't want but people seem to, I'd prefer Emergency Preparedness as suggested bt Zetetic I think it was.

I like preppers and i like the bunker.
I thought the bunker had been agreed and Olivia was on the case.
Think emergency preparedness is a bit dull and hasn't really been agreed but presented as a done deal.
I know the idea is to discourage crazies but I haven't seen a single crazy on here yet and I'm fairly sure if they turned up they'd realise it wasn't really for them.

I'm happy with preppers. The Bunker, whilst a great name, might also attract the more extreme views?

Emergency Preparedness is sensible and easy.

We don't need a club name which makes us look bonkers, just a convenient board to talk on.

Let Mumsnet respond to Zets message, they may do a poll of their own.

I think that a lot of people will not get that "The Bunker" is a tongue in cheek joke. And I think that a general atmosphere of hostility from MN towards this forum (or from the forum towards the rest of MN) will not do the forum any favours.

Keep it boring, keep it Emergency Preparedness IMO.

Ideally we should have a name which can't be easily refered to with such contempt by the rest of the posters.

The Bunker to me suggests a hideout before the obligatory cyanide pills. Please don't lets go down that route! No one else would see the joke.

I don't like Emergency Preparedness, it's far too earnest and serious. I like The Bunker, it's tongue in cheek and lighthearted, like The Doghouse, and The Litter Tray.

Last thing we need is a super serious sounding name that makes us sound like a bunch of paranoid rednecks hunkered down waiting for some government induced Armageddon. That's not us, we are Mumsnet preppers, lentil weaving, happy preppers, with a sense of humour and no major weapons.

Again ... To me "the bunker" isn't light hearted. It doesn't capture Blitz Spirit mentality at all and sounds a bit bonkers.

I don't mean that meanly, I just think there's too much emotive feeling about the presence of this board at all. Keep it dull but the discussions lovely

No, I see your side entirely, I just see it completely opposite to you, which isn't at all helpful. Basically it seems that half of us think A is bonkers and B is apt, and the other half think A is apt, and B is bonkers. :(

I like the Bunker. I'm Scottish so it means something else to me, but that something is cosy and familiar.

These threads have not alarmed me, they've inspired me to be prepared for whatever emergency life might bring. I'm quite anxious at the best of times so being ready helps me feel more secure.

I find it ironic that we are paranoid about it being lighthearted. I understand why but MN has some serious boards, which being prepared is, could be a matter of life or death, but which we aren't allowed to be. It's a shame the whole of MN seems to be watching and waiting.

Again, lame and dull is fine as a name, especially if it helps others accept it and find it too - no point having a secret club name no one else understands.

If you think about it, the real topics don't need silly names. "Feminism" is pretty dull as a name but doesn't constrain discussion. "Christmas" is pretty obvious but works well.

Have same pov as stratters. Am most mithered that we need to change due to the irrational assumptions of other posters.

But it's obvious that as a term, "preppers" has extremely negative connotations for many people, as well as meaning something different to other cultures. Why make it all harder than it needs to be?

Me too swiss am really astonished at the aggression towards us. I was quite pleased the op of the recent thread about being terrified of antibiotics was posted in AIBU rather than preppers. I'm sure the op and us would have had a much harder response about scaremongering if it was in preppers. Who knew AIBU would be a soft option!
